Pour lead today
Well today was actually the first time i really poured any qty of lead. Not exactly a crappie item, 2lb cannon ball weights for halibut. Local shop wanted $9 each. I poured 15 today , most ended up very nice, some small denting on a few. Unfortunately i have little control over the heat to perfect the denting as im heating on a propane burner and a torch to get the temp hot enough to stay liquid. I have a small fluid bed i made but unfortunately the ball are to big for the cup. It was all wheel weights as im saving the soft lead for small stuff. I also used extra long SS eyes in the weights and they worked out well.
I also made my first 1/8 aspirin head double barb jig mold the other day all offset for smaller hook. As soon as i get back to school(vacation now) i will machine the 1/16, 3/32, 3/16 and 1/4, and micro ball heads at 1/100 and slightly lighter like 1/150 for #12 hooks as i just got all the bugs out of the cnc program. All are offset to take hooks as small as 6. Ill post some pics next week. So far each mold makes 8 heads other than the 1/4oz head. Im also working on a stainless steel bottom pour lead pot, just not enough time lately. Ill be all set for next season. If anyone ever tries to make their own molds the key is circular pocket milling the allignment pin holes, just spotting and drilling was not good enough, im not up to hinges yet:D.
