The length is really up to you everyone has there own idea of what is best. Me I go just past the end of the hook and that seems to work great for me I have alot less misses since I went shorter. The fish have to eat it all that way not just the tail.
thanks for all the input ill be fixen some more and posting them. im excited to go and use them this week sometime. ill post pics if so. keep the suggestions coming

Not Bad, You will get better in time
Man, you think it's addicting NOW? Wait till you get into using marabou tails, using chenielle bodies, and adding flash, and thinking up all sorts of extremely weird and unknown patterns. And then you start tying jigs that look like some flies, like wooly buggers, wooly worms, and nymphs. I've just started doing this myself about two or three weeks ago and already have a shopping list ready to head back to Bass Pro. I had no idea it was going to be this fun and addicting. You're in for a treat. And yeah, those look really good, especially for your first ones. I will echo the tail length though. I've even been known to cut down the tail length on *gasp* store bought *gasp* jigs. Of course, that was before I started tying my own. I don't go for that store bought stuff anymore. ROFL.

All good advice above. The top left is the best one, except for the hair lenght. A rule of thumb is it should be as long as your hook shank pass the bend. This is a fly tying rule. Never cut the end of your hair or feathers. Cut from the butt end. They are better long then cut off at the ends. Keep up the good work.
Good job. You are now offically hooked. My trouble is no two are the same. They all have caught fish. Great feeling when you create something and it works.
Have fun.

Top left pink head pink hair. Looks like a pro job. Are you sealing the thread wrap? Cheap clear nail polish works good.
