did the ant have long hopper like legs?
its strange cause it has 8 legs which is 2 piecses of round rubber skirt material at the front in a cross and the same at the back.its black foam cut into a arrow shape with the point end at the back.and has a copper brown dubbing and thread under side
kinda hard to see but its laying on its side in the pic
now that is non the least an interesting specimen you have there mudbug, is it carrying a piece of cheese i really cant tell from here LOL

I have bought cricket flies at BPS real sharp never used it though. If you have one near I suggest going to their fly shop and check them out. Check out the ants too.

Looks like a chernobel ant, in black, if you ask me. I make my cricket/grasshoppers for trout and gills with an orange yarn butt, then black or brown dry hackle, wrapped around some dubbing, the legs are turkey tail tied with a knot about 1/2 way down. Then the head is spun der body hair. It is killer until the head gets h2o logged, but then its a streamer that is pretty cool also.
This one has caught a few fish is why it looks a little ratty
