    Default Photography Observation

    Hey -
Although still a noob to jig tying, I have noticed a peculiar quirk in the excellent photos of ties here.
Most photos of jigs still in the vise are "hook-point-down" . . .
this actually means that you are viewing, and even TYING the jig upsidedown.
In the water, the jig will ride 'hook-point-up' -
I think it is important for noobs like me to know, that, what you believe to be the 'belly' of your jig when tying, will actually be the 'back' when fished.
    Do the crappie know this???
    I have no idea...
But it might make a difference in the way your jig performs and is perceived.

    Am I wrong?

    Just a thought . . .

With the hook point down, the "top" is the bottom when reeling the jig in. Some folks will build up the "top" to make the appearance of a belly. Myself, I think no larger than the jigs are, and at a moderate rate of speed, no fish is going to see a belly on a jig. The profile is what you are after. If it looks like food in the water, you are good to go!

I have some materials that I use on to act like a belly as far as if the belly is white or close to that. If I use this on say a thread neck jig I will put the belly on first and when the hook is in it's retrieve mode the belly color will be on bottom. I don't think it makes a huge difference though.

If I am tying a two color tail the lighter color will be tied on last so it is on the bottom.

most of my jigs dont have a top or bottom they are the same from any side so it never really matters. i dont think a fish is going to care anyway if the colors are a belly and a top or just spiraled stripes. i guess if you really wanted a belly then you could bother but to me its just too much work.

Only difference I've seen it really is when I tie a Clouser, or sometimes other wooly bugger types. For a basic two tone marabou jig it doesn't make a great deal of difference. For the Clouser and others you will want the white belly appearance.

You re-size them before posting. Use pixels to adjust and use 640 pixels for the big side. You can do this with most any photo software on your computer or you can do it if you put your pics on Photobucket.

For the internet you should always use like 640x480 and as long as you control the 640 side the other will follow. If you email pictures it is the same thing.

You can always go back now and edit them after you fix the size and delete the first ones and put the new size back in.
