Black Crow, looks good from here. I like using spinners a little later in the season. I use them by casting to shoreline cover. Below are a few I've made up to use this spring. I haven't used any yet but hope to do so tomorrow. Although I usually use the jig only in the early part of the season as the fish seem to like a smaller bait, I'll give them a shot. I shared some of these with another C.C member and got a report this week that he killed them. Now I have to prove them up myself. Someone mentioned that they tend to spin on retrieve or while pulling them. I did some testing in clear water to see if mine would spin. A couple did spin or lay down on their side, but I corrected that by tuning the arms by bending to one side or the other until they ran straight.
Good luck with yours. By the way, I've tried the roadrunners and have never caught a fish on one.

Those look great, sir. Thanks for the advice on tuning. I prolly would not have thought of that. That'll save me a lot of cussin.

BC, another small thing to look at, especially if there are weeds present as in my case, is the loop in the wire where the swivel is attached. In your photo that wire crosses itself after making the loop and protrudes forward which make it a perfect hang for any piece of grass floating around. I take my pliers and bring that piece of wire in line behind the arm. Also the snap that holds the jigs on has the same problem, it faces forward. It too should be bent downwards to shed grass. Below are a couple of spinners showing the problem on the left spinner and the correction on the right one. I hope you can understand what I'm talking about. Having everything in line helps them run true.

I've fished the 'Beetle Spin' type spinners in the past, and Road Runners....I've also combined the spinner w/ a Road Runner - giving a over/under effect. Troll it, cast and retrieve it slow....also have intermixed blade colors, ie gold blade on the spinner, w/ silver on the Road Runners I have.....

well I went out and tried the proto-type spinner bait today I must say I'm impressed I have a 5.1-1 ratio retrieve reel and I had to crank that baby as fast as I could to finally get the spinner to line roll this will be a pleasure to fish it will be a good troller also when I get one totally completed I'll give ya'll a quick peek!

I tie alot of my own jigs to and have used this spinner on a few, I really

Done the same here , cooked up my own beetle spin type baits using my homemade jigs. The slower I could crank that thing and still get the blade to spin....the more crappie I caught. Was good in the small creeks/rivers in Apr here. Working on building up my ammo right now....one plano box devoted to these, and one for the pony jigs. Disturbed to hear Gene hasn't caught a fish on the pony jigs... as I am in process of making my first ones now....hmmm. Hope they ain't white elephants.

I too like to make my own spinner jigs. I have found that rather than using the pony head, a round head can be utilized in much the same way. I paint the heads then slide a crane swivel over the hook and up to the back of the head. I then tie the jig in the same manner I would tie a non spinning jig. The swivel stays put if you tie the body tightly. Add the split ring and a spinner and you have a very good looking jig at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. I'll add a picture if someone will tell me how!

Hog Daddy don't let the fact that I didn't catch any go to your head. I've only used them sporadically when they wasn't biting on anything else so it wasn't a good test. It just not one of my confidence baits. Good luck with yours.
