Default Plain Jig or "Wild" Jig?

One of these days I'll post pics of my tying area just to show that I have more kinds/colors of chenille, feathers, flash, paint, etc. than the law should allow. I like to see how wild and crazy I can tie sometimes and I like to tie stuff I've never seen. But when I'm fishing, and that's pretty often, I nearly always stick to 4 or 5 "basic" colors. Solid white, black/chrt, black/pink, gray/gray and gray/black.

You guys who tie the wild jigs.......do you like them better to fish with, or do you just like to come up with new combinations to tie? I've never seen any that I feel wouldn't catch a fish, but what do you do when you're on the lake?

Time of day and water clarity play a big role on what I put on the end of my line.Early in the day on a murky lake I like something with either a glow or orange/chartreuse.Stained to clear lakes I like more natural stuff like black, gray, white, silver or any combination.Other factors are what the fish's main forage is,shad, chubs, bluegill, crayfish, etc. I try to match the main forage base but if that's not working I'll go with a wild color.I carry a little bit of everything in my bag.

Wild and crazy is always in my tackle box. Never know when it may come in handy. If I had a chenille that was all the colors of the rainbow I would have at least 6 of something with me tied with it just to try when the old stand bys fail.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
