Actually that's for transparent red colors under water, IE the Cajun Red line, and even then, it doesn't disappear, it turns a gray-blue. All colors do it, it's just the first in the color spectrum to do so. I hate gimmicks. :p

I prefer gold, don't seem to rust even after sitting in your box for a while.
Hook color does make a difference,
I agree with all the above no doubt but if were ever in the boat on an over fished lake and were using minnows and your trailing Me by about 10-15 fish the cost of those hook's just went up like gasoline in a hurricane! some days it dosn't matter some days it does very seldom do I fish anything when fish are very active that dosn't have a tinge of red some where you have to remember their predator's if they thing there's an easy meal they go for it! just My pratice.
Still learning slabology, but 1/16 #4 red hook jigs have been my fave so far.
