Same here. It gives a nice effect and the Crappies really attack it. I started with basic colors Chartreuse, White, Pink, Black and Aqua and figured out those were the colors that really worked the best.

Well to better help yawl out on my idea here is i wanted to make a wooly bugger and i have a ton of duck feathers. they didn't work well. looked like a sick jig the center vain was way to thick. i did however pick up some strung rooster stuff a while back i tried on of them it looked good but the fish didn't want it. i also have some Guinea feathers and those are to black to use. when you put the jig in the water it looks like you have a bunch of black salavania all over the jig and nothing will bite it. so thats why i figure maybe i need to make a new jig with the right material and then see if makes a difference,
heres a crazy idea what about this stuff will this make wooly buggers

Hackle that is strung gives a better unjulating apperance or effect. Saddle is good as well but if you want more of a stinger or riged look saddle would be the way to go!

If your wanting to make wooly bugger jigs the cheapest way to get the long hackle is to get Whiting 100's packs. You get about 10-15 long saddle hackles for about 7 bucks, and you won't break the bank. You won't have the snazzy flourescent colors unless you get the white and dye it, but for black and white it work's out good and one piece should make about 3-4 jigs.

Strung hackle comes from saddles - it's usually the inferior webby grade that is not usable for dry fly techniques. However, saddle hackle has created a niche for itself for salt water flies, some freshwater patterns, and – a lot of jig patterns.
The duck and Guinea feathers are better suited for collaring as opposed to palmmering.
FM - Like the Whiting and Keough also - lot cheaper buying the patches...
