Fatman, sorry to contradict, but the distinct circular mark in the eye slot is from the second cut with a smaller 3/32" bit intended to neck down towards the head from the first 1/8" cut to better match the shape of the original mod hook. The Gamakatsu 2x #1 conversion conveniently extended the eye slot closer to the head just the right distance for a good #6 Sickle fit.
boy if you didn't get that mod just perfect you would be in a heap of trouble...that's cuttin it too close for me. I'd have to try some different hooks before I modified that fine....just my humble opinionQuote:

I can confirm the precision that 1aB has in his collared and uncollared ball heads, outfitted with #6 sickle hooks! Absolutely perfect pours, down to 1/25 oz ,when he molds in pure tin. As a long time customer I've taken more crappies on his quality jigheads than any others, and rarely tie on anything else!
I have modified several molds to accept larger sickle hooks I usually tie a #2 or #1 hook and I pour these with no problems from a 1/32oz head up to 1/8 oz on some molds I modified. I do have access to the correct machines to make the mods without any problems. If you don't feel comfortable enough to do it yourself send me a PM it will only cost you postage.
Thanks Slab, I may take you up on that. I'm exploring a few other options first, including waiting on a reply on an email I sent to Hilts to see if their mold will work.Quote:

Bill, those look excellent! That little bleed is an EZ trim, one of my eye sockets does that too.
Slabologist, agreed there are better tools than a home drill press for precision mods, but a successful tinker on minimal equipment is so satisfying.
