Both these guys tie without a vise:

Artflies. Classic Salmonflies tied without a vise

I have a DVD of Lee Wulff doing this. It's pretty impressive.

ESPN doesn't check too good, lot's of fly tying boards have members who've been doing this.

Artflies has some nice looking flies just couldn't see paying $150 for one.

My first hundred or so jigs were tied without a vise.....I went redneck and used vise-grips. I now have a vise...much easier to work with.

That is asking a lot for a fly. You would have to mount it on the wall as artword.
