Eye paint question

Have been painting some eyes and am having a small problem. I am using Sally Henson's Hard as Nails to seal the eye but if I do any brushing more than touching the eye the paint wants to start smearing. I am using some type of Plasti-kote paint I bought at Wal-Mart for paint. I am not sitting there brushing but do make a stroke or two to get a even coat. Can someone give suggestions as to fix? Thanks

I use acrylic paint from Walmart and the only problem is if I used Fl Yellow powder paint to coat the jig head first it will end up leaving some of the Fl Yellow on the Sally's Brush if I brush more than one time. Never had a smearing problem.

Don't have a clue about the Plasti-kote paint you are using. I use outdoor PLAID for the eyes.

after i bake on the powder paint, then i paint on the eyes using two diffeent size drill bits. after the eyes dry i put them back in the toaster oven to bake for another 20 min @ 300deg. after they cool i don't put a thing on them and i haven't had any problems with the eyes comming off yet.

Fish-wva, what kind of paint are you using for the eyes.
Yellowmattie, Try using 2ton epoxy which you can buy at Wal-Mart. I would paint the entire jig head with it. This will give you a really hard finish and a shiny finish.

another thing you can use for eyes is the elmers painters pens. You can get them for like 3.00 bucks a pen. Get the medium tip. If youre painting on pro-tec powder coat make sure you cure the paint first. If using others its not a huge deal to cure. I know vinyl the paint wont chip at all, but on some of the powder coatings not curing it first the painters pens will wear off after catching 20-30 fish. The good thing about painters pens is it is VERY easy to do two color eyes.

Just simply dot the first color which is the outer color you want that will show up like a ring(usually a white or red or yellow) let it dry for 5 minutes and then dot your pupil on with a black.

Another thing you can do and this will should work in theory is before you paint your eyes use a lure and jig finish from component systems or others that WONT DISCOLOR your jig and paint the whole head. What this will do is seal the paint in and put a layer of finish between your eye finish and your paint.

i always just dip the heads in paint in stead of brushing them .
let it dry then paint the eyes. let them dry and dip in clear top coat.

Are the Elmer's Paint Pens washable? That is all I found on-line.

You guys that are having trouble could always go vinyl for the head paint and the eyes and then the vinyl clear over for a gloss.

I am going to use it for my Roadrunner heads if they ever come in.

On small jig heads and roadrunner heads that I make I use testor's paint, and then some from others and also some powder paint. When the paint is dry I put stick on eyes on the sides and then I use a two part epoxy that I get from Jann's Netcraft. I mix it in the end of a soda can so I don't have to use as much.

I use this system on the powder painted heads also.
