Hair jigs for Walleye

What kind of hair jigs do you guys make up for Walleye fishing? I'm not asking for your specific magical color, just how you make them. What size or what hair? I've been doing some Walleye fishing and have used my hair jigs i've made for crappie fishing but I wonder if they are too small. I've been catching a few, but I normally use a 3" curly tail jig for walleye in about 3/8 oz jig head or so. This got me to thinking tonight if I need to make a longer and larger jig to use on walleye....

I don't fish for walleye, there aren't too many this far south, but from what I've seen on TV bucktail jigs are pretty common. They match the size you mentioned and have the weight you need. Look at my website for some examples, click on Bucktails. www.smoothlures.com

When I was in Ohio I made 1/8 Walleye Kip Tail jigs that worked quite well. Solid Chartreuse, solid white, or solid black worked pretty well on Lake Erie. Don't go too much Walleye fishing down here though, but if I did that is what I'd do. Tip with a crawler or leech and fish under a slip bobber.

i would use 1/8 and 1/4 for walleye on a 1/4 with a #2 hook youll have a nce heavy jig and still a short enough(but BIG enough) to fit into a walleye's mouth. At 1/4 ounce youll have about 2.25 to 2.75 inch long bait. With an 1/8 ounce it be 2 inches most likely.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have caught Walleye last summer using my little crappie jigs I made with belly hair which are about 1.5" long, but this was further down river when the water was quite a bit lower. In the tail waters of a dam the water is much faster. I have also since come to the conlusion I need to start using Kip or tail hair more as it's much easier to tie.

However, the reason I asked this question was since I have been catching a few walleye on 3" grubs in chartruse, white and orange. which made me wonder if I should make a hair jig about that long. Will it loose action when the hair is about 3" or will the long hair add action?
