The origins of the woolly bugger extend back to fly fishing antiquity, and the variations are endless. This is the “meat fly” because if you ever needed to rely on a fly to put meat on the table, this is it. The woolly bugger is impressionistic of a number of different types of fish food.
For Crappies #4 hook.....for 'Gills #8 hook. Tie in bronze bead chain eyes (leave 1/16 inch to finish tying hackle feather.)
Create your own variation of color and presentation This was my interpretation
Hook: Streamer hook size 4 or size 6
Thread: red flat waxed nylon 3/0
Tail: Black and brown marabou with three strands of crystal flash
Body: brown and gold variegated chenille
Hackle: yellow saddle hackle
Variations: bead-chain eyes.
This is one of my "Go to" patterns. I nailed them at Lake Hartwell last week. 34 Crappies, 41 gills.
This has worked very well for me for the past few years. Thought I'd share it on thie forum.
