i use both.... to me it's all in your preference of tying material... but I always confer with the crappie first.... they're the ones I'm trying to catch! :D

Am new to tying and have been tying marobou tail crappie jigs in 1/16 and 1/32 oz. Have not tied with any kip tail. Which material do you prefer? Why? I mainly do long line trolling for crappie in my area. Would one material be better for trolling or equal? Need some opinions. Thanks!

In the same weight jig, any difference in depth run if trolling or do both run about the same depth. Does the marabou have more action in water being not as stiff as kip?
as for the action in the water what I can do is make a short video showing the two different materials in the water and post up a link to it here.
as for the depth runs.... I don't really know but it would definitely be something worth pursuing... maybe tie a couple in both and then set out some line on the side of your boat and see which one is running deeper.... then if you need it to go even deeper then that's where i'd tie on an egg sinker about 3 foot up from the jig to get it to the depth I need them to be in....
Just started using kip/ calf tail about a year ago, and have caught many crappie and gills on my jigs, 1/80 and 1/64. I know marabou has more action, but i think action can be over rated at times, and personaly like kip tail over marabou when the water is still cool, an even did good last summer on the kip tail jigs to. So like i said, action is over rated, but buy a couple of tails and decide for your self.
I think kiptail holds up better if that matters to you at all.
they are totally different, and both have their merits. marabou lets the jig sink faster than kiptail I think, but the durability of it is pretty fragile, tho very effective. you need both in your arsenal. marabou works good with a chenille body jig and the kiptail works good by itself. so two kinds of jigs with different looks. marabou is pretty cheap and comes in some vibrant colors. I saw some in a peach color at bps the other day and had to have it.
I like the look and life like action of marabou. Kip is more durable but marabou will catch you more fish.

i hate to come off as a @$$hole but "Marabou will catch you more fish" .... i have to say in your case this is prob. true because thats what you use mostly....marabou is the most common jig on the market and kiptail jigs are pretty much sold everywhere also...one isnt going to catch more fish then the other....on same days it might but thats just some days...action is over rated somtimes then other times you need as much action as you can get...dont let somone tell you that one is going to catch more fish then the other because they are full of $h!t....you need a lil bit of everything in your tackle box...Marabou,Kiptail,bucktail,fox,silcone skirt....every fish is diff and i have had days where they wouldnt bite any jig but caught them on a ice blade jigs i made but had to hold it very still, any movement and they wouldnt hit it....so nuff with as the BS...keep alil bit of everything on hand because you never know what the fish will want from day to day...
