Making A Mold

Has anyone ever tried making one out of a blank or had one made? I have an idea on one I would like to get made but don't know the right avenue to start down. Don't know what would be the right tools or how to duplicate with the right precision on either side or make more cavities of the same design. Any ideas/thoughts? Thanks CF

I knew of a fellow that made one out of plaster of paris, Think the spelling is right.

Oh, Sorry. I should have been more specific. I'm thinking about a do-it mold blank for a lead head jig. Don't have a clue about the plastics and don't want to even get into plastics at this point. Making and painting jigs is what I'm after for now. Any advice on the lead head jig mold would be much appreciated. Thanks. CF

Was It pretty expensive? I bet it is kinda tedious, precise work. CF

CF, He sure acted like it was hard. $500. each for 3 different sizes and he said don't even ask him again. Those guys have to work within 6/1000 of an inch to get certified I have heard. With todays laser guided cutting machines it seems like it wouldn't be that big of a deal. If you wan't to PM me I'll give you the name of a guy that makes molds and some info. about his company.

I have been thinking that My old buddy Jwhite should be able to make me one or 2. Shoot with the CNC machines scan the jig I have and let the machine do the work?
Jeff does it work that way? I have the jig and can get the blank mold. Been wondering about this my self.

You can make a mold with bondo, make a box out of cardboard, pour half full with bondo, bounce it for 1 minute to get bubbles out, put head half in, wait to cure. spray with non stick cooking spray and drill some alignment holes, pour top half and let cure. grind out lead entry, and good to go. Mikey
