    Default Christmas in March

A buddy of mine from Tx. stoped by last night in town on bus. His uncle an avid fly tier passed away last year and left him a big o box of goodies. He gave me all the doubles. Here they are.

Looks like a lot of good stuff there. Lots of different colors. Kiptails are calf tails. Often used for jigs and some in flies. Check out my website for some examples. www.smoothlures.com

A kiptail is a cow tail. Here is a video on how to tie them.

Are those jigs for striper or saltwater. Do kip tails holdup better than deer. I liked your clousers are they tied with kip.

    Thanks

The bucktail jigs are for saltwater or freshwater, the kiptail jigs are for freshwater. They hold up about the same, kiptail is just shorter and usually used for smaller jigs.
You can tie Clousers with kiptail especially smaller sized Clousers but mine are tied with bucktail, since that's what I have a lot of.
If you want to tie some kiptail jigs, just make sure you keep your wraps very tight or the hair will pull out after a few fish.

Watch that dog. It may bite when you start trying to use it for tying.
Nice bunch of stuff there. Bet the old guy would be proud that someone has it that will use it.

No problem. I have lost quite a few kiptails to my yellow lab, never found any trace of them, not even little pieces of it where she ate it. Guess she knew how to stay out of trouble, LOL.
