Krystal Flash/Flashabou question

I don't use flash all that much on my personal jigs, but I have and have done well with it. However I have a ton of customers that love the stuff and I would say about 1/3 of all the jig I tied last year had flash.

Right now I am doing 2 orders and the first one has 7 different color jigs and 2 have flash.

So where is the disagreement? I am not sure I understand that. My personal jig box's probably don't have 10% with flash.

Also don't think I have ever put flash inside the feathers or hair on a jig.

The reason I mentioned putting flash "inside" the marabou is because it just seemed a heckofa lot easier than spreading the flash around the marabou, and the flash still does show up through the marabou, probably because I don't use a lot of marabou in tails. I think shipahoy puts it as "less is more"-correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm still fairly new to tying (jigs) and having been catching lots of fish on the jigs with flash inside. I was just wondering what y'all do. I did tie some jigs last night ith flash on the outside of the tail. I would go out right now and try em but I need to write a paper... :-( Thanks for the input.

You are right that is what he says.

However I put enough that usually I don't use flash with marabou, but at times I do if it is requested.

I say it's different with flies because even making your dubbing mix sometimes include some Krystal Flash in it when it get chopped up so flies have it all ways you can imagine.

Now saying that, here is the truth...there are no rules that are hard and fixed in tying IMHO. You do what you want and what works for you. Kind of if you like it then do it.

Now I am speaking of tinsel flash when I talk about putting a strip down the outside and only one strip on each side. I am sure some put more, but one is what I do and most ask for.

Also not always do I use the less is more thing as sometimes I like a pretty busy marabou tail and some times longer that some like, but in my experience catching crappie on marabou jigs I have done well using long full tails just as I have done well with short thin tails. So try all of it anyway you see fit. Don't always follow the "rules".

So step outside the box sometimes and sometimes it work very well!

Agreed. Double it and lock it in with half hitch, fold top back over and lock it in again

Flash last for me. Cut it twice as long as you want it, lay on top of fly and catch it with a couple of wraps, then fold it back over and finish the wrap. You can spread it open before the last few wraps for a better effect. Less is more. Two strands max. which becomes four strands when you fold them back over. In my humble opinion.

I use ONLY three strands. One for the Father, one for the Son and one for the Holy Ghost. When they are doubled over they become six strands and I am doubly blessed.

I have to agree with backtocrappie I mostly tie my flash as a compliment to give the fish a peek of flash. I seem to catch more fish with it tied this way particularly on cloudy days. Thats not to say I don't tie some jigs with the flash on top of the material I do. Got to give the crappie what they want. Each lake is different. Experimenting is what makes it fun.
