Colorful. My craziest and colorful jig caught one of my best crappies. It’s not what we think, it’s what the fish think. They appear to like it.

Well guys around here are using Walmart sacks,,, so this is beautiful.
True, it is what they think.
Lately, the fish don't seem to want anything much. It's been hard to get a bite with bucktails or plastics. Big or small didn't make much difference either, nether did the profile.
The other day I decided to do something different and the biot jig was one of several tied.
I haven't used EP sculpt-a-fly in a long time and tied several with that to give it another try but haven't used them yet.
Here's a couple using the fiber:
The fiber has some real potential, just needs field testing.
Both look real good. I never get rid of ones I dislike as you never know what the fish will like...

I once made a jig out of a #4 Aberdeen hook, a pinch-on sinker, and a piece of a peacock feather. Caught a little Bass on it, then it fell apart shortly afterwards.Didn't matter to me, 'cause I CAUGHT SOMETHING on a jig I made, myself !!
IMHO ... fish don't "think", they just react instinctively to the world around them. So, if something even slightly resembles something they might think of as "food" ... they're instinctively programmed to check it out. That might be giving it the "smell test", or it might be the "taste test", and it's just our job to make it look like something they should check out. And if they do give it the "taste test", we just need to be quick enough on the draw to set the hook in them. And if they're big enough to keep, take them home and do our own "taste test" .... ON THEM !!
A buddy and I did a "test" many years back ... digging thru our tackle to find the ugliest, dumbest looking, gnarliest looking jig we could dig up and see if we could get the fish to bite it, anyway. We threw some really UGLY jigs ... but they still got bit.
SO ... keep on tying & trying & experimenting with your creations !! They'll all work, at one time or another.
Have fun & Luck2ya !!
Yeah CP, the experimenting is what is great fun to me.
I seldom try to tie 2 jigs just alike and even then there is always something different.
Most plastic jigs are pretty slim and work well so tying with less material is sometimes the way to go.
My theory, or one of them, is to tie a mirage at times. That is, using less to give the crappie a view of something that doesn't look familiar but is still enough to entice a strike just in case its something good.
The fish are the only judge that matter
