Recently I poured up some new jig heads. Guess I better get busy making up something.

I got out my vise. Just above are Chinese bobber stops, strung on mono line, with the thought that they would wiggle and waggle as they went. I flick the bobber thingie and it flitters back and forth nicely. Vibrates. One has a knot to prevent the foam stopper from slipping off. The other I made the line too long, had to cut off the knot, and then used super glue to freeze it in place. Either seems to be fashioned firmly.
I got to looking at my creations, and thought a dock shooting feller might appreciate having a grasper knob thingie to pull back on before he looses it. The profile is fairly close to what our local minnows appear as. I hope they swim well whilst being dragged behind the boat.
Collins Mold Arow jig style in 1/16th ounce, powder painted in clear with UV enhancers, with an EC 571 short shank hook, some chenille and the thingie. I almost want to call them Bobcats. As the weather continues to cool and I start dropping down in sizing, these might be a good option.
Not happy with their eyes. The flat surface makes creating the 3D effect a little bit problematic. A nice eye cavity fixes all of that. I think I will stick to using my Bright Eyes with this head. They really pop and will be spotted earlier than regular eyes.
Speaking of which, I ordered up some size 30 SS rhinestones. These will be 6.4 mm and will fit the Arow head jig very nicely. Again, adding a large brightly colored gem replaces the need to paint with powders to try to get some attention. The gems are so much more brilliant than any of the powder paints. Some gems do well with a white background, but all do well with a dark black background.
I am mad at Gorilla Glue for making stuff that is a disaster to use. Regular old GG foams up as it hardens and this pushes the eye away from the head and makes a huge mess. I pried the eyes off of those jigs and now the glue bottle is in the garage in case I ever need to play a mean trick on someone, and gift them the bottle to use for their jigs. Horrible stuff. I wasn’t thrilled with the other glues I have tried either. So back on the great glue hunt I go.
Waiting for the post office to open so I can mail some jigs. Gonna try to make Deadly Dan just a little more deadly. ;)
Propane bottle exchange, grocery store, dump, and the glue hunt all in one excursion. Believe it or not there is a girl working at the dump that could win most any beauty contest I ever seen. Not really expecting to see all that while standing there with a handful of garbage. Good thing I am married, because the dump stinks and I would have to hang out down there.
A Lot.
My boss said we will try to swap out spark plugs and see if that fixes the engine. Slab thinks I should gun it more frequently, but I already run it pretty good. There is another reason why it is fouling plugs, if indeed that is what is happening. Engine has like 30 hours and this is the second time it has gone into slump back home mode. Upsetting.
She who must be obeyed wants to go to the springs tomorrow.
I am impressed with your ingenuity! Those that think outside the box are rare and interesting.
Looking forward to seeing your jigs.
This is the Gorilla Glue I really like. The brush works great and the glue doesn’t harden in the bottle, so it last until empty.

Danny
Well they will be in hand by the end of next week. Mailed them this morning. Hope they inspire you.
Micanopy, have you tried locking it in place with a dot of regular superglue, then coating in UV glue. It is a bit touchy in price, but you can get a 2 oz. Bottle of UV Resin Hard type at Hobby Lobby in the jewelry section. Usually on the bead isle. If your lucky the UV flashlight is their also. Mine is always out of the light. Amazon has several lights for this ranging from $7.95 to as high as you want to pay. but one that I use is made by DARKBEAM UV. A 395nm Flashlight that's USB Rechargeable. Put some Resin over an eye hit it for 10-20 seconds and do the other side. ready to fish that fast...
Thanks for the advice.
I visited the hardware store and found some Duco Cement and that seems to do pretty well. I also picked up some of the J B Clear Weld in the two tube epoxy variety. You squeeze syringe and it applies equal amounts. Stir then apply. I haven’t tried it yet.
The Duco applicator is for those that want a lot of glue, not little droplets. I can manage though, and did so with a few eyes yesterday. This morning they are stuck on pretty well, but I am still not satisfied and the hunt shall continue. The Duco has altered the appearance on a few of the rhinestones. I suppose it melted the backing.
Attachment 436944
Another floppy tail.
Attachment 436946
This lure kind of interests me. It sports an eye that I made using a 2D sticker and some UV resin. I feel that the appearance is superior to what I get in 3D eyes. The head is powder painted in clear with UV stuff mixed in.
Attachment 436947
Attachment 436948
Here I was fiddling around seeing what baits look like with the glow eyes. I had broken out the old Bat Jig mold and poured up some 1/8th ounce heads. The two bottom right. The eyes look fairly good on those. The fit is not perfect as the Bat Jig produces a rounded bowl shaped eye cavity vs a nice straight sided edge. So the rhinestones have to be positioned just so.
Attachment 436950
Attachment 436949
It does make for an interesting creature-like look. Kind of reminds me of that episode in the old Star Trek where the away team meets VOL.
Attachment 436953
VOL told the locals what to do. They were a peaceful people who knew none of the seven deadly sins. No nger or violence. However, when VOL saw the away team it taught them how to kill. Pretty cool episode actually. My Favorite was the one that pitted Kirk against the Captain of the Gorn ship. Now that was a cool creature.
Attachment 436954
Physically, Kirk was no match for his strength, but he did have more agility. When the Gorn had him in a bear hug, squeezing the life out of him, Captain Kirk made a move that freed him. Do you remember what he did to make the Gorn Captain release his hold ?
So I was looking at dragon eyes. I was on AliBabba and discovered that me great idea of layering resin over a photograph of an eye has already been accomplished. I hate that. All my best ideas get thought of. Well they aren’t using resin, but rather glass. They stick a photograph to the flat bottom of the glass and BAM.
These are called Photo Glass Cabochons. They work up an eye design on the computer, print it out, and affix it to the glass. The effect is cool. So I was looking around the site and saw where they have different grades of these eyes. Some are quite artistic. The simpler the eyes, the cheaper they get. I saw 100 eyes for $ 2.95 and free shipping if you buy $10 worth of stuff. I am thinking about springing for some and see what shows up next month.
This is an example of what they sell for $ 2.95 for a hundred.
Attachment 436955
These are as cheap if not cheaper than the 3D eyes everyone is so fond of. I guess if you add the word fishing to something the price needs to jump up.
There is an issue though. As I was pondering my idea, I realized that the photo backing would necessarily need to be protected from water. That means they would probably go bad if attached with glue. Instead they would need to be inserted down inside an eye cavity, and the edges sealed with resin. Encapsulating the stupid thing.
Next problem is sizing. There are some as small as 6mm, but the good ones start at 8mm. I would need a jig with an eye cavity much larger than the ones I currently have. The eye cavity on the little jig I showed earlier is exactly 5mm, and I did not see that size. Drats.
Oh well…… I will look around some more. Must be tedious to assemble so they tend to run larger for that reason. I saw some gorgeous eyes in the 12mm size.
I don’t lose very many jigs. hardly any at all in fact. So for me to make a really cool jig isn’t a giant waste of time. Like it would be if I was dipping into tree tops or something. Also, it interests me to design and fashion up unique designs. I enjoy piddling with stuff to form up junk. Which I then gift away to make room to make more junk.
Great job with those eyes. That Stat Trek episode sure makes me feel old. Kirk never met a green woman he didn't like
Im gonna hafta get in cahoots with a jig maker or 2 these jigs are far bettern anythang I seen for sale.
Best/joe
Joe there are many here that will be more than welcome to set you up.
Well, Joe you can look about some and find what interests you, then ask. Those that sell on here are honest as Abe. Many will customize your selection to suit. Some are like me and do not sell.
Well I ordered some more of those rhinestones, only this time in a larger size. Should have read the reviews about the seller because they all read the same. Promises to deliver by a certain date. date comes and goes and still they haven’t shipped. Then you get a notice that they will arrive a week or so later.
Still I can’t wait to see what the jig heads will look like with these larger sized gems. I have some heads painted up and ready to go. I and thinking that once I apply a few that I will see no more need to paint the heads first. Rather just glue the gems on and done. They should completely cover the entire side of the jig. I really like the brightness of their glow.
I met a man that has the Monkey Pox. Covered in oozing sores. He handed me some papers and after he left I cut my hands off. Come to discover that he could give it to me through touch. Mostly a gay man thing now, but it is moving in on children in schools. See what happened was we invented a Small Pox vaccine, and that protected us from Monkey Pox as well. Then in 1970 we had finally eradicated Small Pox, and they stopped administering the vaccine. Now younger people no longer have immunity to either pox. So if you see someone with oozing sores, almost like they got into a mess of skeeters and scratched themselves silly, try not to touch anything after they have. Body fluids, sprays from the mouth such as sneezing, and direct contact with an oozing sores gets it done.
I heard tale that someone declared the pandemic to be over. It is not. Just wait and some more will be around. Rand Paul has been hot after the cause. He has asked that weird doctor where his money came from and where he sent money to study just such a virus. Of course it is bad form to even ask. Seems people have studied the thing and see where it was not naturally occurring, rather a made man made virus. A weapon of war. Crazy stuff going on folks.
I spent my day yesterday starving myself. Yup colonoscopy this morning. The prep was good and I am ready to get in the car and get this over with. Colon cancer is more prevelant than we imagine. Many other types of cancer actually started from colon cancer. It gets in the blood stream and now you have liver cancer, lung cancer, etc. Many will die needlessly for fear of having the procedure done. This is a huge mistake. You should get the procedure done as soon as you qualify, which is age 50, unless you have family history of such. The prep wasn’t so bad, I am just a little hungry is all. Got me some taters and some chuck roast in the old crock pot for when I get home. Mmmmmmmmm
I am serious about the procedure though. You have a responsibility to your kin to stick around and this is a good way to do that. Simplest of all to detect, diagnose, and remove. No chemicals or radiation needed. Just snip snip and done. I hope I am clean and without the dreaded cancer. I have a lot of jig heads yet to make.
Looks lifelike

Last night I was feeling really weird……sat down and done this.

I like the idea but the colors don’t contradict. Maybe I should have gone with green eyes. Hmmmmmm…….
Hurricane coming. Looks like it is doing a hook movement. Coming at us at an angle. We have seen these types recently and there will be lots of power outages. It is being shown landing in Tampa and making its way to my home. Usually the winds have lessened by then but we have lots of trees. Erma made a huge mess of our trees.
What is happening now is our local electric companies are making deals with your electric companies to come to Florida. The caravans will preposition nearby where it is safe, and then swoop in to begin work. Co=ops are only allowed to hire other co-ops, cities- cities, and feds- feds. During Erma we had trouble getting them into the areas as evacuees were streaming back home.
Well our company bids on feeding one of the co-ops in the area. They like to choose us because the other caterers provide cold sandwiches and such, where we provide hot meals. Now the trick to getting the out of town helpers to actually commit, is in the perks. They really like helping out this particular co-op because they provide three hot delicious meals a day. ;)
We fix scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, grits, bacon, etc for their 5:00 a.m. breakfast. Lunches and dinners are different from each other, each day. Some days we serve fried fish, another brisket, etc. So when this particular co-op sends out their requests, they get more help than what is needed. Cherry picking what is available because they feed the men. Who are very richly rewarded I understand.
Me, I have to get some gas cans filled. I use a generator to run the well, some fans, the TV, fridge, stuff like that. We will be taking cold showers. The trick is get in, get wet and turn it off. Lather up good. Then quick rinse and out. Ha Ha Ha it is kind of fun watching her think this is some kind of great plan when she starts squealing when that cold water hits her.
Well it looks like I will need to be feeding the power pole men for a period of time. All cooks will be expected to be there. The company makes big money. I hope the damage is light and we only have to feed them for a few days. I heard they eat like animals. I am not looking forward to this.
Today I have to help a friend move some of her things out from her old house. Her Ex will be away for a while so we can get in and do our thing. I hate confrontations and arguments over lamps and stuff. I remember one time I was helping ( everyone calls me ). The two stood there screaming at each other over the coffee pot I was holding in my hands. All I was doing was grabbing the coffee pot for my friend. Well the argument escalated incredibly until I made the decision to just smash the stupid thing on the floor. Afraid so. Argument over. Now no one gets the coffee pot. They realized that they should probably resist the temptation to fight over the things they really liked. LOL
I have had pickup trucks for most of my life, as did my father and both brothers. So we get asked all the time. Folks with cars get asked to box stuff and eat pizza and stuff. If you have a friend with a truck, and you decide to move, and you ask this friend to help, do the planet a favor and have everything boxed and ready to go. Nothing worse than having to box and transport. Also, don’t buy one stupid little Dominoes pizza with plain cheese and pretend that that is the way you prefer your pizza. Splurge a little. Get a three topping pizza.
Hurricanes are kind of like camping adventures. We get to eat stuff discovered in the freezer, sleep with the windows open, and sweat a lot. Well at least it isn’t August right now.
Been through a many of the Hurricanes. Last one was Katrina. I was an Electrican in those days. Those were some long hours putting services back on houses so the line crews would hook then back up when they came into the area. Three meals a day of whatever you had stocked into the service truck in cans. Sure ate a lot of tuna. Stayed out preparing for the storm until the winds reached 60 mph and they closed the roads. When the winds dropped back below 60 I was back on the road again repairing services and hooking up generators. The day after the Hurricanes blew through the misquitoes would eat you alive. Y'all be safe and take care of yourselves and the pets.
Yes Sir, Been in a couple. Keep your heads down, and stay safe everyone. Weatherman says it's a big one and will get worse when it hits those warm Gulf waters...
The kick is up…..and it is wide left.
Attachment 437449
They are now showing the CONE OF UNCERTAINTY as having changed. Before it was gonna hit Tampa and roll right over top of me. Now it looks like the panhandle is gonna get this one. I will still get breezes and rain, but hopefully not wide spread damage.
They say Ian will be a major hurricane when it leave Cuba. Well there is nothing for it to encounter after that but warm Gulf waters. It will probably be a fairy strong storm as it flies past me. The key for my area will be how fast it is moving. It will pass by me in the dark of night, which I hate. I prefer being able to see what is going on out there.
Still the storm is a week away and it’s path might change some more. The power company was gonna base their assessment on what they saw reported today.
Currently the Great Mullet run is upon the surf fishermen of the East Coast of Florida. Seems everything likes to eat mullet during this annual migration. A man can cast net more mullet than he and his buddies can carry. I was fishing the run a few years back and had cast a fingerling into the waves in close to snag me a redfish. Well wasn’t no redfish that grabbed that mullet. The fish that bit took off at a high rate of speed and never slowed down. I tightened hard against the 65lb braid but the fish didn’t seem to notice. I watched as 400+ yards of braid left my now burning spool. Then he stopped, and started doing aerials. It was a monster tarpon. He jumped about five times at a distance of about 300 some yards. Finally his gill plate sliced my leader and it was over.
Well I reeled in and spent some time pondering why a fish that large would rub his belly in the shallows to get the little fish. Mullet swim according to size, and there were medium sized mullet and large and really large mullet available. The bigger they are the further off the sand. Yet he chose to ease up a shallow gut to get the dinkies.
Some time after that I realized what he might have been doing. Bears do this during the salmon run. They don’t eat the fish, they strip off just the choice morsels. They stomp them to squirt out eggs to lap up. They stack their stomachs full.
Well big fish can eat large mullet, but how many can he get in his gut. Smaller sized mullet can be slid in and packed really tight. Probably digest better. Probably better nutrients from the many than the few. Either way that monster fish was eating little mullet as a preference.
Last year this time I spied a school of minnows getting whacked about. Crappie and probably bluegills were nailing them. I felt sorry for them. No where to hide. Just swim along until you get taken. I eased the boat in for a close up look and saw minnows about 1 1/2” long. BullHead minnows.
So in a lake filled with all sorts of shad, would crappie still have a preference for minnows ?
Maybe so. Maybe they even taste a little better. Who knows. However it is true that folks use minnows and not shad to live bait crappie. I am sure some use shad, but most do not. So I wondered if downsizing lures during Fall might be a good approach.
It is hard for me to tie something small. I start out with grand plans, but soon I have this hanging off, this sticking out, and I get a medium or large jig. I made this one this morning.
Attachment 437454
I want to tie some more jigs, and plan to do just that. I prefer my plastics, but ties are always fun to make up and put in jars to store away for gifting later. LOL
I plan to dip that tail into Slab Sauce and really tear them up.
Well I helped my friend move her stuff out and found this in her garage.
Attachment 437455
It is just a tool holder thingie. Magnetized. The wood is very heavy though. It will be perfect for adding eyes to my junk.
The Duco Cement does not work for eyes. I was able to rip them off after it dried. Very disappointing. So the great glue hunt saga continues.
The larger sized rhinestones I ordered…..well that has been all bad. They told me a date that I would have them. Then they hadn’t even shipped them by that date. Now two weeks later they tell me they are on the way. I would certainly have chosen another supplier had I known. Don’t tell people lies about when the goods will arrive. Once in hand, if ever, I will mention the shipping during my review. Which they have been asking me to make for them already. We still have the product here with us, but tell us what you think about it mister.
Anyways, the rhinestones I got are 5mm, because that is the size that fits inside the eye cavity of one of my jigs. The ones that are coming are 6mm. Too large but they are a good size for another jig I make that has no cavities. In fact, I can skip painting the jigs and just glue the rhinestones on and be way ahead of any color of paint.
About Wednesday the store shelves will be empty with the Hurricane out in the Gulf. Those Gulf waters will build a storm if it meanders around out there too long. Good looking tie
Here we go…….
Attachment 437539
It has decided to come my way after all. Was hoping it would swing wide left and just dust us off a little. Now it looks like high winds will be upon us. Thursday into Friday means it is a slow mover. We are gonna have power lines down for several days. Not much fun. We will be on the right hand side, which is where all the action is.
Today I will gas up five fuel cans to run the generator. I usually get around a can a day or so. Hate to do it, but will need to visit the grocer one more time. Soon the shelves will be barren.
The boss is gonna want me to work non stop to feed the power line workers. Early early mornings and late late nights. All day everyday. My wife will be off work Friday, Sat and Sun and probably Monday maybe Tuesday. She is gonna want that generator running the entire time. TV and fans and flush toilets and such. I need to tell her to do ALL OF THE LAUNDRY NOW.
Before I had a generator, I would fill my bathtub up and use a five gallon bucket to dip water to flush the toilet. I learned that you don’t put the water in the tank, rather just dump it straight into the bowl and like magic the stuff goes away. Now I hook my generator to the well pump.
Cords through the windows to run those multi plug thingies.TV, fans, lights. I never invested in the switches that let you plug straight into the fuse box. No suicide cords for me either. I have seen generators getting wired in to fuse panels before, but I like cords. My fingers prefer cords as well.
Well I been playing with my eyes again. I pop them out and roll them around the floor and stuff. Just kidding. Been playing with my lure eyes again.
Attachment 437540
The effect is somewhat lost in the photo. They look great in hand.
All of these eyes are over sized for the 1/16th ounce jig head. The edges of the eye reach past the jig head up top, but fit flush everywhere else. It really is a non issue as far as I can see. So what, they stick up a little. Anyways I kind of like the look of the larger eyes. I had the larger eyes in stock and decided to see how things looked with a plastic bait attached.
The hot pink one has eyes that I made from some old holographic vinyl sheeting stuff I had laying around. I used a hole puncher to make a plug and peeled the backing away and adhered them. Then I squirted some UV resin on them and let it spread out to beyond the edges and onto the jig head, then froze it with the light to seal the eye. Encapsulated it. Not too shabby actually.
Here is a punched out holographic disk that I added to a willow leaf blade.
Attachment 437551
The picture is better, but still nothing like having it in hand. It looks like a diamond encrusted blade. I am sure it will flash like nobody’s business.
Most hole punches are 1/4” in size, which is a tad more than 6 mm. I was going to make printed eyes and do this technique, and still might. The issue is printing onto what ? They sell photograph useful papers, but if water gets in there it would be a mess. I would need to completely seal the thing. I will revisit all of this one day and see if I can make the coolest eyes ever.
I don’t understand why people use jigs without paint or eyes. I mean they seem to like to brag about it. I don’t get it. Now if I were losing a bunch of jigs every time I went that would be different. Still they like to say that they don’t believe in paint or eyes. Maybe they are absolutely right and the fish never notice. Still if they fish a bare head, they are still using a color. Grey.
I have gone through a metamorphosis with regards to eyes and will probably change some more later as well. I tried making jigs with no eyes but they just look unfinished. Especially when the jig head is not that plain old round ball. Fat Guys sells a nice hatchet head mold but again there is a rounded side where sticking on eyes is not going to work. I see most just painting them and calling it done. I guess painted eyes give a finished look, but not the same as a resin eye. Most jigs that are hand tied seem to have this plain painted head.
Three of the jigs above have not been painted. I just glued the eyes on and done. There really is no effect to gain from painting when the eye takes up almost all of the surface.
Attachment 437549
On the heads the eyes look fine. They seem to fit several varieties. The far right is a 1/16th ounce head and the eyes do NOT sit down inside the cavity. Instead I daubed the glue into the cavity, and applied the eye and moved it around some to get good coverage on the rim of the cavity. Should work fine. They are 1/8th ounce heads.
I also have been doing away with the lead bait holder hook thingie. I don’t think it is better than glue. Might be great for someone who uses the same heads and swaps out bodies while fishing, but I show up with finished lures anyways. So no need to shred the bait needlessly. I found that squeezing it down beats cutting it away.
Did I mention that soon I hope to get some larger sized rhinestones. Ooooohhhhhh…….
The great glue hunt just may be over with. Read and old post by Dr Nip where he spoke highly of Godzilla glue. Well I have had three bottles of the stuff and all of them sucked. Then I saw where he was using CLEAR. Ah Hah clear. So I found a bottle of that and have used it on the eyes as seen and it seems to work well. I turn the bottle up at an angle, ooze out a drop, and then touch the jig to apply. Works OK.
So soon enough I will be making some more lightbulb headed jig headed thingies. Over sized light bulb eyes in flashy neon UV glow colors. Cool.
Cords are best. Back feeding an electrical panel can kill line crews if not done correctly. Transformers work in both directions.
Our prayers are with everyone that will be affected by Hurricane Ian. As a life long resident of south Louisiana (near the gulf) we know what you are going through. AND the thoughts that run through your minds.
We’re praying for your physical protection and protection of all of your assets…
Be Blessed…
Danny and Patsy Ayo
Prayers for everyone effected by IAN. C.C Members, Family and others. Looks really bad.
Well….. so far the hurricane has not produced much damage around my parts. I suppose as the Sun rises and people start to go outside, we will see severe damage along the South West Coastal areas. The storm is moving slowly and that is not good, but it is starting to weaken. It is a very odd feller. The power was not where it usually can be expected, but rather opposite.
My local weather liars are all predicting 25-30 mph winds here today. So I imagine we will have some power outages, but nothing like the electric company had been planning for. I can’t see the out of state crews hanging out around here, where we would be feeding them. They are gonna be needed way South of us.
If they leave, not sure what we will do with all of the food we loaded up into our refrigerated trailers yesterday. Then there were the trucks we loaded with canned goods and plates and all manner of stuff. Some of that stuff was defrosted just to get ready, and will no doubt be tossed if no one eats it soon. ( lights just now flickered as I wrote that ) Anyways, I hope that by Friday we will know what we are going to do. They have me scheduled to go and cook for linemen this weekend.
Maybe we will drive Southward and cook down there, but I doubt it. The power companies down there probably made their own deals, with companies in their area. No sense delivering our food to them as they will want to make some profit on the sale of food. i guess I will find out what is going to happen to that food.
The shame of this storm, is not the power or the size, but rather it’s odd movement. It was shown as swinging past SW Florida and heading up into the panhandle. I am afraid that lead folks down there to not prepare. That by the time the pencil heads got done drawing lines showing it hitting those folks it was too late to prepare. I am certain that many were caught off guard. In my area there is a major interstate that those folks have to use to evacuate. Well the roads looked normal for a weekday. No massive caravans headed North sucking all the gas dry as they go.
Even our locals haven’t sucked the gas supply dry. The stations all seem to have plenty. I am sure a few ran out but there are no great shortages. I spoke to one station owner and he was surprised. Said normally they are lined up to get in and get his gas during storms. It is all just so very weird with this storm.
Looking at the projected path, I suspect this storm is going to be listed as one of the more expensive storms. Places that do not normally get hurricane winds are getting hurricane winds. This means things that have been built over the years might get knocked over. People might not realize that there are lots of old trees around that haven’t been tested in a hundred years. The heavy rain softens the ground and that allows the rootball to dislodge and over it goes. Also, trees are designed to withstand winds acting one them in a straight line fashion. There cell walls and such flex. Twisting, swirling winds however twist the tree’s limbs and that makes the trunk twist and trees are not designed to withstand that. They snap leaving a nasty jagged break.
My buddy came over yesterday and removed the electrical panel cover off of my power supply thingie. He placed a breaker in the box and wired a heavy duty wire into that breaker. He showed me how to remove the neutral wire from the box. So now if the power goes out, I can remove the neutral wire, flip off all of the breakers. Make sure the main breaker is off. Start generator and plug into it. Then start flipping breakers on to run the household stuff.
To shower, I will turn on the hot water heater. Then after an hour, turn it off and turn on the well pump and get showered up. Take a leak, go ahead and flush. Then later flip the well pump on to fill tank. Last night we slept with the sliding glass doors open. We have a set in the kitchen, a set in the living room, and a set in our bedroom. The temperature was very pleasant and I was able to sleep just fine without running the a/c. I told her if she heard a loud noise to awaken me. Never happened. All quiet over night. Soon the Sun will light up the sky and I will be able to assess damage, if any at all.
If you ever move to Florida, consider a cinder block house. No it won’t protect you from getting the roof torn off, but it will save you from having to evacuate. There is nothing worse than evacuating. One year we had a storm and people were evacuating. I saw them lined up on the road, sitting there bumper to bumper. Bird cages, dogs, kids, the whole deal. Well that year they could not get away and weathered the storm in the cars. Stuck on the highways. Tough lesson but those people will never evacuate ever again.
The issue is water. Rising waters wash people to their deaths. Trees can topple over onto you just about anytime actually. The rising waters though are the real killers. Katrina killed in that manner. It wasn’t the winds it was the flood. Galveston, Texas had a large loss of life a hundred years ago due to flooding. In the Keys, there was a bad killer storm. The people there survived the winds, but not the water. It just flowed right over top of the land and washed people away.
I am sure the surf fishermen are mad as hell. This will put an end to the great mullet run. Not sure why, but storms like this ruin the run every time. Not sure where the fish go, but they will not be running the beach any more. My buddies have been having some fun catching flounder and jack crevalle and sharks. Oh well.
Well it is getting light now, so I am gonna go take a peak.
Glad you are k. Thanks for sharing this
They are reporting hundreds of deaths in Lee County. That is Ft Myers area. I suspect storm surge washed into their homes. A real shame.
Glad y'all made it through alright. Flood waters are definitely hard to deal with. I lived in Mobile, Alabama when Katrina came through. That was a wet storm. Flooding a couple of feet above the 100 year flood mark. Water got up into the backyard. People living closer to the bayou were being rescued by the National Guard. I have 5 pickup loads of leaves in my small little yard. The tunnels under the Mobile River lost power to the pumps and started to flood
Glad you weathered the worst of it ok. Stay safe my friend.
The storm has passed. The prognosticators got it wrong at every turn. A lesson for sure. No matter what they say as far as the track, they are lying. As soon as they show it coming anywhere near, get prepared.
Now I have five gallons of gas in the generator that has to come out before I can store it away again. I think it needs a new carbeurator as it would not run unless the choke was out a little bit. I have five cans of gas in the garage. It was the ethanol free stuff.
Yesterday I spent $800 on wallpaper. Yup wallpaper. She just had to have it. It is called “Strawberry Thief”, and we are only doing one wall. So I have been watching YouTbue videos on how to paper a wall. I suspect I will do OK. The wall has a textured feel to it, so I am going to put on “Lining Paper” first. This gets run on the horizontal, then the wallpaper goes on vertically. It smoothes the surface so little dimples and such are not seen in the wallpaper upon completion and drying.
I went with the paste on wall type as that was the type that had the hue of Strawberry thief she liked best. It is made in Jolly Old England, where they have this thing for wallpaper apparently. I like a plain old white paint wall, but she does not. She thinks she has to decorate the wall. Sort of like the folks that have a bunch of Walmart family portraits on the wall. Hmmmmm….. she might be trailer trash after all.
Anyways this is gonna be a task. The paper rolls are $244 each and I needed 2.2 rolls, so had to buy three. This because there is so much waste due to having to cut and throw away paper to get the pattern to align. Can’t order two rolls, see how it goes because then the batch numbers do not match and the colors will not match when you do buy that third roll.
I get to practice my technique with the lining paper, as it goes up first. Fight with that stuff, which is only $25 a roll. Mix the adhesive paste, roll it on, attach paper, adjust, then smooth out. The plan is straightforward but some how I envision myself wrapped up like a mummy in the stuff. If it gets too bad I will just sit down and pout and that will get her to give it a try. As soon as she does, I plan to run away for a few hours. That has always been effective in the past. Come home and she is too far along to walk away. LOL
During the storm I fiddled up a few.

These are smaller jigs. I clipped the collar off the heads and tied them up. So no longer 1/16th ounce size, maybe closer to 1/24th.
They sell swish balls for kids and people cut off the tentacles and use them for tails. As seen here. The issue for me is my tentacles are small, and if I thread them on the hook as if they were baits, the tail hangs funny, cockeyed, and can tear. So I set the jig in the vice and super glued the tentacles to the top of the hook, not skewered. Then after drying, tied them in and they hang beautifully straight now. I also cut the ball somewhat as I remove them. This leaves a small piece of the ball that will act to make the tail wiggle about. The tails are on backwards from what I see others doing. They stab the thicker part onto the hook and lash. I did the opposite orientation.
I like the proportions on these and think they should work pretty well. Again, it is hard for me to start a jig and keep everything small. These are like little minnows, and smaller than most of my plastic baits. Like a little paddle tail they are.
Here are a few more that I fidddled up with my junk.

They are more of the traditional style jigs that everybody seems to want to make. I like the two tone look of pink and yellow.
I also made up a hybrid.

This one is interesting to me. I cut away the grub portion of a Slabonator Devil’s Minner, and attached the tail section to the jig. Small amount of chenille added and the tail glued up tight to it. This alters the baits normal profile quite a bit. Makes it much shorter but also sleeker and more streamlined. Part hand tie, part plastic bait. In hand there is a nice waggle to the tail. I suspect it will make a good swimmer for my trolling operations.
Gonna seus vide me two marketed sections of tenderloin today. Then roll them around a top the char-broiler to finish with a nice sear. I can get two wonderful steaks to have for dinner, and a third steak for chopping into salads and such, from each one. I have two. Bought the first one with an idea, but the second one came later as part of my prep for the storm. Might as well do both at one time. The tenderloin is already very tender, but after the hot water has worked on it, the meat just pulls off in your fingertips. I plan to douse them with Brazilian steak seasoning.
Made kabobs yesterday, atop of rice, with some thinly sliced chicken breast. I been leavcing the meat off the kabobs to get better results. My bamboo skewers get burnt, so might get something else. The charbroiler has removable grates, and they sell sword like thingies that would stretch across and allow direct flamage to sear the vegetables. I might have to get some……after I recover financially from the wallpaper deal.
It never ends does it ?
A little Seafoam mixed in with your gas may clean the carb up on your generator. Does sound like the carb is a little dirty but not so bad as it can't be cleaned up while running
