Rotary Vises

Thank you for this thread! I have been looking at them myself and was curious about if it was really needed. Hearing all you guys say howuch you like them is probably going to persuade me to buy one now!

I have 3 vises and two are rotary. I never use the one that isn't. My favorite is a little known but a great vise. The Force Predator. Very heavy vise. Expensive...but worth it. A screw in the back allows you to adjust the head up or down in a slot to make it truly center.

I have a Renzetti Traveler rotary vise that I've been using for over 20 years and have tied over 250,000 jigs with it on hooks from #16 to 6/0. Only thing I've replaced is a set screw.

Wow, that Force Predator looks like it is built like a tank. Looks like it is almost all metal.

It is....the round shaft that its attached is 1/2" where as all the others I have seen is 3/8" I found it on Craigslist for $350 used. They sell for over $600. Solid as a rock...will hold up to a 6/0 hook.

Rotary vise will also let you get a good look from all sides even with all the other good things it adds to tying. I am sure I could tie good jigs on a fixed vise and be happy, but I love the Rotary and actually went a little farther than that to the Nor-Vise which you can spin, which helps speed up the thread base a lot! It also has other things you can use the spinning for like dubbing tying and such!

Icehouse I just put one together because I was new at fly tying. I posted my build of my vise to "All things Fishing DIY" room on Facebook...all you need to do is join and do a search using my name for search.
Here it is right after I finished it.

I have a cheap $75 one and it doesn’t rotate too smoothly so don’t use it much. Next vise will be a better one and then I’m sure I’d get use out of it.

I took others advise and I’ve been thoroughly impressed and happy with my Peak vise.
