i mean i have a hammer already and my vice stand is nice. i rather spend money on other things but i guess if folks wanna get some flat pliers, sure :) i got pliers that got grooves in them, might be good for the glue to stick better i think.... maybe...
I do both painted and stick-on eyes depending on what type of head I am painting. On round head jigs I use vinyl paint and various sized drill bits to make the eyes. I normally do an eye and a pupil (personal preference, but certainly not needed!) Once the eyes are painted and cured, I use Sally Hansen's clear coat nail polish to prevent chipping. My experience is I will probably lose the jig head before it chips! On minnow head jigs and pill (aspirin) head jigs I use stick on eyes with a dab of water resistant glue...not ALL "Super Glues" are created equal, so make sure you do your research to make sure you use some type of water resistant glue to keep your eyes in place. Good luck and experiment with both...you will find what works to suit your needs.

Well my grip isn't as strong as years past using pliers
hammered always came out somewhat uneven
having to be rehammerd
So came up with using flat jawed Vise grips
Which kept all the jigs in the same pattern
and easily adjusted for a different eye size
Hope this little hint helps for those with arthritic hands

I have an easy way to add eyes. I use the head of a small finishing nail. Gently dip the head of the nail in the paint and touch it to the side of the jig head. Perfectly round and quick.
Well really many of us have used the flat end of cheap drill bits for painting eyes and all you need to is have a few sizes so you can even do two color eyes. Use to do that all the time! Finishing nail probably does same thing, but sizes are not as many as drill bits. You can get a cheap set of small bits for low cost.Quote:

I am too lazy to put eyes on nowadays but I still have multiple colors of finger nail polish I use to use; just dab a bit on...
I do some jigs and streamers with painted on eyes with a toothpick or other round object. You can break off a tooth pick to make different size eyes. Sometimes we put eyes on the jigs and flys for our personal look and no to catch more fish. After many years I have not seen any difference in eyes-no eyes. When you fish a jig or streamer think about what the fish sees. It is usually the rear of the lure-fly as he chases it. Not a side view. However I tie a small streamer with a silver body white arctic fox wing and white thread. This is a very easy tie and works well to represent a shiner type minnow. Trout,crappie and small bass take them as well as anything else I fish. However I would only sell a few do to the simple looking pattern. I decided to put a very small red eye on the white head and sales doubled or even tripped . Personally from my fishing the new eyed pattern had not made any difference in catch rate. However it made a big difference to the appeal of the fishermen buyer!
I do the same thing pretty much. I glue them on with superglue, then go back over the top with Sally Hanson Hard as Nails. Seems to work pretty good.Quote:
