i ate a few of them fish before ......met a puerto rican girl when i was a young man that wanted to go ketch fish with me .....the river was up and the drummer boys was biting ....she wanted me to keep some of them and they were dandy size so i filleted 3 or 4 in the 3 lb range and she baked them in a split almond baked trout fashion .....
i would have to say they were some mighty fine eating as i remember .....havent kept any in a very long time though ....
i do know they will thump the fire out of a jig sometimes ....nice ketch there Bob
they are a lot of fun to catch and they do put up quite a battle royal for little 4 pound fish that was the second one that I ever caught in my life all in all I enjoyed catching them because they do quite a battle which is a lot of fun.
Time to change the name from Texas Bug.....use it on Christmas and you can call it the Humbug when you catch the drum.
I know a couple folks who say they are great smoked.
