Griffin Montana Mongoose Vise

Thoughts?

Thinking of getting another vise. I have a Peak Rotary vise now.

They say it's a very good vise, but I don't know much other than I can get them. Also if your looking to change the brand I would highly suggest you look also at the Renzetti Saltwater Traveler vise! I have one a have to say it's really great! I tie on a Nor-Vise, but that one is different and tiers either live it or hate it, but most that hate it are one that have been tying a long time and some don't even use a rotary! I believe both of these are higher cost than the one your looking at, but the Renzetti is closer in cost! Your vise on a quick look was $208 and the Renzetti was $239, but don't get caught up in the Traveler, look at the Saltwater Traveler with Cam jaw. I do love the size of this vise and lots of room around the jaw!
just for reference the top of the line Renzetti is close to $700, LOL!

Room around the jaw was the reason I was looking at another vise.

Went to Cabela's to look at the two and came home with the Renzetti Saltwater Traveler. Not saying the Griffin isn't a good vise, but that Renzetti is NICE! Now it's time to put it to work.

The Renzetti Salt Water Traveler is what I bought just before I got the Nor-Vise and would still be using it if not for the Nor! I should use it more because I do love that vise! It's so light to with the alloy metals and even thought eh jaw is a lot smaller than the Peak, it hold just great! I am tempted to swap it around and use it for a while again.

I have a Mongoose. I read the posts that were a few years old. I think Skip had a post with a link to a test of vises at different price ranges. Griffin Mongoose came in second to the Peak. They really liked it a lot. I think its a great vise for 150.00. The rotary is taking me a bit to get used to. I find I can rap a thread faster. But something's you can't beat it for. I am just a beginner at making my own jigs. Just my two cents worth.

Yes once you get into the better brand of these are all good vises! I don't have any experience with of the Griffins mostly because I don't live close enough to a fly shop to see other brands. I have always heard the Mongoose is a very good vise!

Dunno if ya have your mind set on that'n in particular, but I tie on a Dyna-King Barracuda and really really like it.

Still tying on a standard vise Dyna-King Kingfisher - and boy did they go up in price compared to what I paid for mine!!!!

Lot of guys I know on the fly fishing boards love it.

Have always liked the look of the DK Barracuda and tried tying on one at my local shop but didn't like the price!!LOL

I have a Mongoose and I tie crappie hair jigs and nymph flies with it. I love it! It's definitely something to look into.

I have a mongoose and love it! But, when you get into that price range of vise they are all good!
