Default Waiting for supplies to come in to start my tying adventure!!

After reading countless posts and looking at the wonderful jig patterns and creations ive decided to start my own tying adventure. I've had a love for crappie fishing since I was 18 when I started going to the local dock with my grandpa, he has taught me alot about different techniques and what colors to use( mainly squirrel tail hair jigs, solid black, black with a black greenish chenille and what a local jig maker calls purple purple purple!), not a wide variety of colors but they seem to be the top producers at our lake. After using the same few colors and not having very many options other than bobby garlands ive decided to start making my own and taking the colors I use now and mix matching to come up with new patterns that hopefully will fill my basket. Maybe I can get 'ole gramps to try something different for a change while im at it.

Almost forgot, welcome to the site and board!

Welcome to the madness and addiction because that is what this is. It's a wonderful hobby and I just love it! I have bought way too much materials over the years, but it is what it is and am sure at some point you will understand what I mean, LOL!

Enjoy and have fun is the main thing and once you catch a crappie on a jig you tied, then the hook is set in you, LOL!

You should take the little time needed to read and look at the lessons on FAOL and yes it's a fly fishing tying site, but one you will learn correct things from. I know there are many many videos out there now, but some good and some not so good! Anyway to to this site and click on Fly Tying and then Beginning and see what it says. Also know they may be tying flies, but they still use chenille, feathers, etc. so see how they tie things in and copy that no matter what you see on some video on YouTube!

    Thank you, sir.
Ive already bought way to many things but I wanted to make sure I had enough variations of colors to work with.

I will definitely check that out.

I make my jigs, watching TV. I just love it, when the right color comes along, and you have the only ones.

There is no way to describe the feeling of catching your fish with one of your own creations.
