Jig tails
New guy here. Just a question. What tail material do you prefer and a "why". I hear buck tail, calf tail. feathers [what kind], Marabou, tinsel. What do you use? tks Ole

Well it depends on you and on the fish along with water temps IMHO! Where you live it would seem kip tail (calf) or Squirrel tails would be excellent. I know lots up North use buck tails a lot too so wouldn't pass that up, but would want some Southern Buck tails before I want the Big Northern ones becasue the hair size is bigger on the Large Northern ones. These probably should be your cold weather materials for sure. However once warm sets in I don't think anything can beat a feather and for that either Neck Hackle or Marabou. I use the original Flashabou in Holographic colors for my tail flash and one each side is good.
Also didn't mention Arctic Fox, Fox tails, Craft Fur or a lot of other materials that are all good!
First thing is what are you confident in as that will make a huge difference! You will not stick with something you are not confident in!

Thanks Skip. I forgot about Craft Hair [old age thing] I make a lot of Walleye and Bass jigs out of Craft Hair. Catches everything. I have noticed you use salt water saddles. Any reason for this. Also what is a v-cut tail and how to? Tks Ole
