Stained water ?

What's the real story on color s and Stained water? Is chartreuse the only color worth tying? Chartreuse/ black, seems to be the default.

I use Flo orange/chart, flo pink/chart, black/chart in stained water. Something about that black/chart, it's just a go to color!

Black and chartreuse has stood the test of time. It works in any water it's not always be best but it seems to always work.

Depends on how stakes too! I call stained in a few levels, if I can see my jig down say 2 1/2 feet it's a little stained, if its 1 1/2 feet it's stained pretty bad and anything under a foot to me is muddy!

Now on the first 2 stages there are a lot of options and here are a few.....
Chart/Blue/Chart, Chart/Black/Chart, Silver/Chart/FL Blue, these are my favorites, but there are more like Purple and Chart as well as a lot more. One of my recent loves is coming on pretty good is Pink/Chart/Chart also all Chart can be a real winner here too!
next levels up I would use these....
Flame Rec/Black &FL Yellow/Hot Orange or the tail could also be FL Fire Orange or even Flame Orange!
Also Black gets a big hello here with Black/Blue/Black or Purple and Black. The biggest thing here in my opinion is going even more slow!

i could spend even more time on this and come up with a lot more, but should be enough for some help for a starting point!

oh and one other jig should get mention here is a Popeye jig. That is a White Head with a big Black eye then red thread neck and a Black and FL Yellow tail. I do use two tips for this jig which is not a pattern I came up with like most of mine are. Someone else has that credit and all I did here is state how I tie it!

I look at things a bit different than many. If the water is stained I head for colors that reverse contrast with it. Instead of lighter colors, I go to deep blues, purples and blacks. The darker the better. These stand out against a background that isn't as dark as they are. Another, newer concept, is uv treated baits. I make my own plastics and every bait I make today has uv enhancement in it regardless of color. The enhancement makes these bait visible in any water during daylight. There are spray products for treating jig heads and baits as needed or wanted, plus a powder paint product for top coating colored heads. Just a couple ideas for you.

All fish caught on Lime and Chartruse but one and it was on Purple and Chart. That Lime and Chart has been my go to for about 3 years now as our lakes are pretty stained most of the time except mid summer.

That is how I do it! Also just an FYI for everyone. That chenille that looks like Chart and Black, it's really FL Yellow and Black, but mixing Black or even Blue with FL Yellow brigs out some Green tint. All need to understand when people say Chart they mean the Green one, but FL Yellow is also Chart! Also both are FL!
