Look good! You may want to stop your body at the point of the hook just a little long but other than that look good.

If your using real peacock herl you should look at the fly tying patterns using it. They use it as a chenille they make as tying it. You can also tie in a piece of copper wire before the body is and leave it hanging off the back side until the body is finished. Then you wrap the copper wire over the herl body until it gets to the head and whip finish it all.

Skip I have tried the the rope I I like it . I did it this way trying something new to me that I read on a fly tying board I just should have used more Herl .. There is a wire in there you just can not see it very well .. The thing I Really need to work on is tying in feathers .. I will get there soon just need to stay at it ..

stab - here's a video (it's at the bottom of the screen) when you go to it go to about the 1:52 mark in the video and it shows the copper wire ribbing method.

Fly Anglers online has a great fly tying course from beginner to Advanced, and Fly Fish Ohio is a really good site that shows a lot of tying methods that also have video's with them. They also have a cool jig that one of them members tied and it does work well.

You're on the right track. I have seen herl used up to 7 or 8 strands at a time but it's captured different because it isn't as durable. I have a dragonfly nymph tie that used maribou used like rope to create the body. You might pick up an idea looking up a video on tying one of those. Nice looking jig.
