    Default Matzuo Sickle Hooks?

I see a lot of jig crafters are using sickle hooks.
What is the advantage of the sickle hook over a standard round bend hook?

It seems to have a higher rate of hookup success for me and the sharpness is awsome! there are some drawbacks but they definitely have their place. they snag easily and won't bend out to get the jig back, there have been some quality control issues with the tempering and the hooks breaking at times, but for the price you gotta try them. captain hooks has the best prices if you are ordering a 1000 or so.

Matzuo replaced some #4 black chromes when they had a tempering problem but the new one's they sent me last year have worked well. Eagle Claw has come out with their own sickle hook and I haven't seen any bad comments from anyone who's cast them or fished with them.

I noticed that I got more fish hooked in the bony roof of the mouth instead of the peripheral membranes around the mouth that tear loose so easy. I use a #6 in brush and loose em still but I also land 2lb fish on the #6 also. They're much sharper than any Aberdeen's I have found.

Noticed in long trolling stared losing less fish especially at the boat with sickles! After I'm out of Matzuo will go to eagle claw Lil nasty's

As said above, don't lose as many fish and they come really sharp and stay that was. Cheapest sharp hooks out there. Most hook ups you will find they have been hooked in the roof of their mouth in a better place.

We use a lot of # 4 and # 2!! We like the sickle in more open water!!(spider rigging) The sickles have a wider gap(sharp)(more hangups) in brushpiles!! Crazy angler has been the best supply'r of hooks!!for us!!fast service and good prices espically now!! We like the gold hooks!! something about the red tempering seems to make the hook(red sickle) weaker(break) our 2 cents for what it is worth!!!! We like the round bend in and around brush seems to go through brush better(smaller gap less hangups!! Was fishing Monday I was using regular my fishing buddy was using sickle's!! #4 on a 1/8 oz jighead) I was using the round bend!!(1/8 0z # 4 roundbend) the sickle hung up more but got better hookups!! I fished the same jighead all day caught more fish but also lost more fish!!
