Maybe the kid was just a better fisherman than you?
Just kidding! LOL!
Some days you just never know what the fish want. That may be the only time that kid ever catches a thing on that color combo.

Anyone ever tried a pink head/ black body/ brown tail jig? A kid caught a few pretty good crappie with one yesterday fishing on same dock as me... Seemed like the crappie he caught were bigger but he didn't get the number of small ones I caught... Lol. It just seemed like an odd color combo and I wondered if anyone had tied any up like that.

I tried some of my flies and caught a few on them... Another thing I wondered about was the pink head because not many of my jigheads are painted... I have plenty of powder paint but to lazy to paint them for use with plastics but I might need to paint some up
Just because the colors might not match or look good to a fisherman doesn't mean the fish won't eat them. One of my favorites is one of my worst sellers: orange/brown/fl yellow.
As to him out-fishing you, it could be his retrieve, jig weight, line weight, or even the color.
Fish are funny sometimes... He only caught a few but they were all bigger than the ones I was catching... I probably caught 35+ but none were over 8 inches... I was using 2lb line with a 1/32 oz jighead I feel sure his jighead was probably 1/8 oz but the water isn't over 10 ft under that dock... Maybe they liked the quick fall? I dunno just thought that was a odd color combo... I can see orange/brown/yellow being good tho
Never tried that one!!
I fish black with a pik tail, don't see why brown wouldn't work. Usually when I tie brown at the front the tail is either orange or yellow.
Sounds like a color combo you may want to try. I would also try the heavy head, the bigger fish may have been feeding close to or on the bottom.

I have found at times the bigger ones are smarter than the smaller ones as they have had many more years to grow and learn what to eat. I think it is because they see the same bait presentation and giving them the new color combo drives the bigger ones crazy because maybe they have not seen it before and want to taste it. Just my opinion but it makes sense to me.
