Getting Started

I won't save money but I can make them the way I want to, and make what works for me. That's all that matters.
I don't yet have a Whip finisher and proper threads to tie. So my knots are suspect.
This is the first one I tied. I'm gonna do some more like this.

The best part is when you catch fish on one you tied, that is the real joy other than just creating which is what iI like about tying most I think. When I started hardly anyone was tying jigs and now there are so many guys tying it's been like an avalanche of guys getting into tying for probably the last 5 or 6 years. So enjoy what you can from it as it's a great hobby!

They look good, the more you tie the more you learn. Just like shooting, the more you shoot the tighter the shot group!

Those are good first efforts. You have the most important thing, the desire to do better. I will say that the vise isn't the most important thing, but a good vise does make it SO much easier. I use the rotary on my vise every time I tie. I don't regret spending the money, and if you don't stick with it one of the folks looking to upgrade will give you most of what you paid so no real loss of funds. A few tools an it's all fun after that. Looking forward to see how you all progress.

My whip finisher is on the way. That will make a difference.

I would also recommend a ceramic bobbin as soon as you get the chance. It will fray the thread a lot less and it will also not break it near as often. It is a very good investment.
