    Default wanting to make my own gnats for spider rigging.


    Wanting to make gnats and was wondering what kind of thread & hair I should buy to wrap them with any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Where is the best place to get it from?

    Regular flat waxed thread, you can use any hair you want but I believe most use bucktail or craft fur. Darice long pile is good stuff, and I just bought a bunch of the new Hairline extra Select craft fur but haven't used it yet. If you can find the old Targus craft fur get it, it's good stuff. You should be able to get the stuff from Crazy Angler Tackle or any other shop that carries fly tying stuff, just compare prices to get the best deal.

    I used feathers on the ones I made. However I think Craft Fur as Fatman said.

    Thanks Fatman gives me a starting point and something to do since its been so cold here in Illinois.

    Gnats that I have seen were made using kiptail or rubber legs

    Deer belly hair or bucktai/flash, rubber legs/flash work really good for me.

    Mine were maribou and flash on a regular aberdeen that worked great. Tie some of each and let the fish tell you.
