    Default Hook Size

I haven't found a thread on this yet, maybe not digging far enough back in threads. I am thinking of pouring some jigs in 1/16 and 1/8th oz. Would someone tell me what size sickle hooks to use and where to find the molds at. I have looked at the Do-it molds and all I have found use the eagle claw hooks. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Ths sickle hooks will fit in the do-it molds. Sometimes you have to modify just a little for the point of the hook. The do-it mold is easily modified with drimmel tool or drill bit. Captainhooks is one place to purchase hooks.......there are several others. The #2 Hook is in my opinion the best hook size to use......but many others like the #4.

I pour those with #1 in 1/16 and 1/0 or 2/0 in the 1/8. Had to take a Dremel and small bit and modify mold for sickle hooks. I know those are bigger hooks than most use but we got big fish down here
I have seen on the web site or in the Do-It catalog where it says their molds will accept the sickle hooks. Maybe if you were using the size the mold calls for they might work in the newer molds. I know FatMan sits down and hand fits each hook into his molds before even starting to pour. Also the last couple of batches of hooks I got do seem to fit better than the earlier ones did.

Thank you lightwirehooker, and cray for quick responses. I'm new to all this and weighing my options. I know everyone has a different opinion on what to use as we all are different. I recon I will get me the mold and a few of each hook you all suggested, and see which will need the least amount of modification. At least now I know where to start. Thanks again for the info. Eric

Eric yeah I pre-fit my red sickle hooks from the first batch of them I got, but the last batch of sickles 2, 4, 6 fit pretty well. Matzuo had a problem with their size #4 Black Chrome sickles and it took me a while but I finally got my replacement hooks from them.

Alot of folks have recommended Zeiners Bass Shop for Do-It molds, they have really good prices - but shop around you might find a sale

For 1/16th 2 or 4 - if your using a larger plastic or tying a heavy material jig go with the 2
    For 1/8th - #1's

Right now it says his website is down for Maintaince but a place called Upper Bay Sports is where I got the last couple of batches of sickle hooks i got in black chrome. Found him on EBay. He is in Maryland and it took a little time to get them but no big deal. Prices were as good as I could find anywhere.

Thank you Fatman and cray again...all the help I can get. Using store bought jigs right now to get the feel of tying them. Figured making my own jigs might be a bit cheaper. Doing it for myself right now. Haven't learned how to post picture's on here yet. Sometimes this box is a bit more than I can comprehend. Thank you all again.Eric

Mostly #4 for both, but some #2 in some 1/8 and 1/4. Do tie a lot of 1/16 Minnow heads with #6 Sickle hook, a lot!
