painting a pony jig

I recently poured some pony jigs with the swivels and blades. How do you all paint the heads but still allow the swivel to spin? I tried with my fluid bath but the swivel gets covered in paint. Thanks for any help.

I cover the swivel with tin foil, but usually the top side still gets paint, but as long as the ottom still spins, it's fine. Be careful that ou don't wrap the tinfoil so close all around that ou have trouble getting it off and make sure it comes off before you cure the paint.

JimFish tought me this trick. Use 1/8 heat shrink. Cut a piece about 1/4 in long slide over swivel heat until it shrinks around swivel. Heat head and paint. Then remove heat shrink and bake. My fingers don't work well enough anymore to do the tin foil plus heat shrink is way faster. Can be found at electronics supply stores. 4 ft section abbot 2.00 dollars.

Thanks guys. I thought about the foil but thought there would be an easier way. Inloke the heat shrink idea. I guess there is no speedy way. Again thanks.

I use a small paintbrush in use powder paint after you heated up sprinkle the powder paint on the lead only it works for me.

How hard is the heat shrink to get back off? Pepop also mentioned this to me, but I have been using the tin foil for about 8 years on Roadrunners. I pinch the tin foil so that it's wider than the swivel, but still tight enough to hold out paint and then it comes off very easy that way with one easy pinch from the stats.

I've found the 1/8" heat shrink works great & I've only had a couple of instances wwhereof had to take my mini side cutters to it to get it off. Also, I haven't had a single swivel lock up from powder paint getting on it.

Skip, I use heat shrink also. I place the heat shrink on the swivel, heat the head (the heat shrink will shrink) dip into paint, then pull off the heat shrink while it is still hot. Very easy to use.
