Default Drying rotisseries for cranks---any pics or suggestions?

I've been checking out some of the videos on line about painting crankbaits and a couple of them mentioned rotisseries. The one that showed theirs looked homemade. I have a low speed 12 volt motor that should work for one. Can anybody guide me toward what you use or post pics?

I'm not interested in doing anything but putting some Bandits in the water that the crappie have not seen. Since I'm already set up with at least 4 airbrushes all the way to an Iwata Custom Micron B, and have about every color paint known to man, it just seems logical for me to try my hand at painting some for my own use. Some of my early attempts caught fish but didn't hold up.

BTW, if you guys who use airbrushes have not looked into the new Badger Renegade series, you owe it to yourself to check them out.

Hey Doug, A lot of painters use a grill rotisserie. I have an old motor I use that I custom built. You are welcome to use if you want. I use a product called table top I got from Hobby Lobby and I think Lowes has a form of it. Hard as heck. This is a pic of a Salmo . I like the color!Name: salmo-hornet-h4sdr-po-600px.png

Since you didn't have good luck with it holding up well either try what irish said or use Epoxy to make it hold up. I don't paint crank baits so I am not an expert at this at all, just know Epoxy is good and hard.

Since I posted this, I watched some Youtube videos and got some ideas. I ended up in the bargain bin at WallyWorld and found a rotisserie kit for $20 and installed it on a plastic tub. Have it ready for the 1st batch of Bandits.

Buddy, that bait looks great. I'm probably going to go with some variations of florescent paints first to see how they hold up.

Skip, I use Enviriotex Lite in my taxidermy work to do water scenes. Since I'm already familiar with it, I'll probably try it 1st. I also use Krylon Triple-Thick spray to gloss fish mounts. No reason it wouldn't work for cranks.

Well mrdux your way ahead of me on that. I know nothing about any of the paints your using so you should know a lot more than I do on that. Good luck and show and tell after you finish and after you get to try them out. I am getting a lot more interested in crank bait fishing and have a bunch of them, just don't use them, LOL! Of course all the ones I have come from my bass fishing days, but lots are the smaller versions which should do well with crappie.

Doug, Do you think the Krylon triple Glaze will work on acrylic paints. Been wanting to try it. Hope you post some pics soon. Interested in how your paints work! The table top I use is the enviro lite. Nice deep luster but a bugger to work with especially around the bill.

Buddy, I painted 3 Bandits today to play around with my paints and such. I used acrylic florescent paint from WalMart and thinned it with Windex to get it to shoot thru my Badger and Iwata Custom Micron B airbrushes. I spent way too much time tinkering with the thinning so the paint jobs were very basic. Once they dried, I cleared them with the Krylon Triple Thick. I sprayed a tack coat very lightly then a couple of top coats as the coats dried. The gloss was water wet look and rock hard with no noticeable wrinkling or color fade. Buffalo13 and I are going to see how the paint holds up Sunday afternoon. The paint job is something the crappie have not seen but I won't be showing it off in public until I get better at putting it where I want it.

Note to self: there is a reason folks aren't using Krylon Triple Thick Glaze on crankbaits------it won't hold up to the punishment.

I tried some of my newly painted Bandits Sunday and each one I used that had been cleared with the Triple Thick, the paint cracked from hook contact and bottom contact. One of them lost probably 1/4 of the paint.

Envirotex Lite and the new rotisserie from now on.

Now that's a shame all that work coming of the first time out, but at least you now know that one is not good for this.

That's true Skip but I'm one of those folks who tries things outside the box. Most of the time I trip over the sides of the box trying to get to the outside. This was one of those times. I'll just dust myself off, let others know what I saw, then go back to what I KNOW will work.

At least I know the crappie and some other monster species of fish like my new paint scheme.
