Default Some different ties for night and ice fishing

For size reference that's a # 16 barrel swivel. Inside of circle is style I dubbed "shaducks ". I was tying the smaller jigs (1/48 oz ) jigs when I got the idea of using my little sunfish jig heads for the " shaduck ". These should really produce well in Ohio for summer night fishing. Main forage base in our lakes up here are shad. Have yet to test them but I think the submersed lights that I use for night fishing will really enhance their fish attraction.

The outer ring ones really tear them up in ponds so far. Crappie , perch and gill have all jumped all over them. Have tried them in 3 different lakes from the boat and they did good there also. These little guys ought to do great thru the ice IF we can get some decent ice up here this year.

The way I tie these is I put flash on first. About 6 strands , then duck wing feathers for main body. I want flash but not an abundance especially for the ice . The small ones sport 3-D eyes sealed in clear cure goo. The "shaducks " sport a tear drop shaped 3-D eye mounted on 1/32 oz sunfish jigs then sealed also.

Tomorrow night ( Sunday ) the " shaduck " will get tested under the lights if the weather don't put a kibosh on me. Huge 17' hump surrounded by 28 ' of water has always been a mid-late summer producer of slabs. Has to be at night though. Where they disappear when the sun comes up beats me.
