Default tying a jig with a collar

I came across a bunch of unpainted jig heads with a collar that has a barb on it for keeping on soft plastic. Can I file down the point and still tie with whats left of the collar and if so, do I do anything different than a jig with no collar.

Just pinch the barb down with pliers and your good to go.

That's exactly what he is saying. Take a pair of pliers and just squeeze the barb down flat and tie over it. Do it all the time on jigs I pour.

Or you can cut the collar off if you want. If you want to tie thread neck Kip tail jigs or some other hair I probably wouldn't do anything except make the barb a little shorter.
