we do a lot of dying of feathers and for the best.you can buy is from key and I do have one other outfit that I do use they specialize in die for feathers but very spending it cost me about $80 a pound if you are interested we can give you addresses but the Internet is full of people that handle it rabbit hair is pretty easy to die.

Here is a quote from FAOL (Fly Tying site by Jim Smith)...
"Dyeing your own feathers and fur is often the only way you have to get the exact colour you want for that special pattern or even that old traditional that you want to tie. If you use a well proven dye like Veniards fly tiers dye it is not difficult or messy and can develop into an interesting pastime for when you are not at the fly tiers bench."

I have used the Veniards Fly Dye on buck tails and rabbit skins, The colors came out awesome and did not fade. The bucktail also seemed much softer after the dying process compared to bucktails I have purchased in the past. the Rabbit skins though did not come out like zonker strips the skins became a little firm I think due to the cooking process. worked fine for clipping the fur and tying in but I would not use the skin. Reducing the heat and or dying time may correct this but cant say whether it would still dye correctly. I am sure it would work well for feathers but you may need to start with white feathers first. The brown parts of the bucktail would be tinted the dye color but would still be mostly brown. This is the process I used.
