    Default attractant for hair jigs

Just wondering what the best attractant (I like garlic) to use for hair or feather jigs. I don't want to prevent the jig from doing what it does underwater by coating it w/the wrong stuff. If they made crappie nibles in garlic, that would be better than nothing. I'm new to "true" float n fly, so any advice is welcomed!

I don't put anything on mine. I have tried a few things like shad oil and once I did that jig was not going back in my box!

I have used fish oil from capsules, power bait and craw fish oil. I don't think there is a magic scent out there as some times they work and sometimes they don't.

I'm with you Skip, not going back in my box!! I have tied a few things just to see if I could fine something to put on the jigs but a tied jigs works just as well with no scent.

My jigs wind up being stained the same color as the crappie nibbles that I use. I spider rig or slow troll useing multiple rods and I have compared. The jig with the nibbles out catch the ones without. I learned this fishing Okatibbee in MS with ScottV. I won't put a jig in the water with out a nibble on it.

I always tip the jig with either a crappie nibble, minnow or worm hooked thru the end, so no additional scent is needed. don't underestimate a plain white crappie nibble especially after it has been in the water long enough to start dissolving and it puts off a cloud in the water.

I may use a minnow or wax worm on the hook of my hair jig but I wash wipe off the hook before putting back in tackle bag & never put anything on the hair of the jig as I feel its counter to the reason I am using a hair jig and that's for its action in the water........
I find skip's jigs work great, and hold up good.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.....

Put a crappie nibble on it and have some fun.

You learned well "G". Lol A jig with a crappie nibble on it will out fish one without 10 to 1.
