Lookin for a vise upgrade
Anyone got a DanVise lyin around collecting dust? I'm wanting to upgrade from the AA I got with my starter kit and I'm needing to stay under $100. Any ideas?

for a decent vise that rotates the Danvise is the best under $100, but once you get just a little higher you get all good metal vises with great machine work. It's up to you and if you don't mind the plastic parts I say get one. You can always sell it if you want to move on from it. I used one for about a year before I bought my Renzetti and actually sold my old Danvise to someone you know.

Thanks Skip. I think I'll go for it. I found a Fly Shop in England selling them for about $86 US, delivered. Sounds like a good deal to me.

You can't find a better price on ebay? I know they had the best prices a few year back. I think you will like it fine. I know they were selling them for somewhere around $70, but they may have gone up. The people that import them are on FAOL? I have not priced them in a long time though???? I will look.

I like my Danvise that I picked up off an e-bay ad. A complaint against the Danvise is that the torque of the hook clamping can easily damage the vise jaws. I saw a tip that protects the jaws from damage. Take some plastic packaging material - the rigid clear stuff that is formed to lock an enclosed product to its cardboard pegboard card. Cut small pieces (I use 3/8" X 3/4" for hooks from #10 to 1/0) from the plastic and fold in half to make a 3/8 X 3/8 envelope. Side your hook bend inside the envelope and clamp in the Danvise jaw FOLLOWING THE DANVISE INSTRUCTIONS. This works great.

Pepop, Hookhack.com sells a generic metal rotary vice with a clamp base for about $40. They're pretty fast shipping. Their UV set glue is reasonable too.

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I went ahead and ordered a Peak from BPS since they offered 6 months no interest & $5 shipping. I figure I can swing the $29 a month for 6.
