    Default Making zonker strips help

I have tried to cut them many times, all have failed miserably. I even bought one of those cutter things and for some reason they still turned out terrible and didn't work.

Am I doing something wrong or do others have such a hard time doing it? Maybe I just need to find someone to cut them for me.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Best advice I can give you is look at Fly Tying forum.com Cutting Rabbit Hide into strips? - Fly Tying

This is a search on cutting rabbit hides and lists a bunch of easy effective cutters for doing it. I've been looking at it myself as I re-discovered a tanned rabbit skin I bought for .25cents at a flea market. Been going through box's looking and re-arranging and found it. I want to do mine in cross-cut strips as I've found them easier to use on jigs, and not have to stroke the hair back when winding a straight one. If the link won't let you in to view pics you may have to do a quick register and get them that way. BUT!!!!!!! It's got alot of good info from guys who hve done it alot!!!

    Hope it helps!!

I can't help much with this and every time I see what some use I don't want to et into that. Too many sharp parts so I just buy my strips.

I thought about buying them but I have like 12 rabbit skins and would rather save the money making my own. Won't matter if I can't tie them in right so want to cut some and see how they work I buy yet another thing that I have no place to put.

Just remember they are dangerous and have to be careful not to cut your self.

I haven't found my pelts yet but hope to this weekend. When I hopefully do, and suggestions for how wide to cut them? I know different sizes for different uses but just a general size so I am not trying to cut too small?

I made a cutter last week that works and you don't have to worry about cutting you hand off!! LOL
I'm having computer troubles and have to buy a new one today so I'm not sure how long it will take me to get everything up and running (a day or two) but will make a post about the cutter.
About the width, I started off with my blades 1/8'' apart but that seems to cut a lot of the hair fiber so I moved them out another 1/16 to 3/16 and work better. Also built a cutting board so the skin will not lay on the cutting board while cutting the zonkers. I have not had time to retake pics but I will after I get my programs downloaded in the new computer.
Be careful with the blades!!! Did I say be careful with the blades!!!
