Default Old time Horsehead color - Think I finally got it!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick background on this to show how long I've been trying to pull this off - Year and a half ago a thread here on the board asked about color combo's for Horsehead Jigs. Well the conversation turned to what some of the original colors were. One listed was Chartreuse Head/Teal Body/Chartreuse maribou tail.

After my medical problems I spent lots of time on pouring jigs, powder painting them and spinners and I finally got back into the tying and I tied one that I thought was gonna match it and used peacock herl for the body. Well my good buddy CrappyPappy told me CLOSE but no - so in another thread I had made a bunch of spinners and tied up some extra treble hooks and he saw that I had tied Peacock Neck feathers and the Bluish/Green of the neck feather was the match.

So OFF to the drawing board and I THINK!!!!!! I got it. I pulled out every bag of dubbing I have and my grinder!!!!!!! I used a combination of SLF dubbing in Kingfisher Blue and some Wapsi Super Bright Green Caddis and this was the mix I finally came up with

    and the tied product

So for all of you who have seen the original did I get it?????? and if not give me some thoughts on it. This was always a great color and caught lots of fish and I want to get it right.

You'll see this in the thread on spinners I made but I decided to post it alone, to get more input!!!

I don't remember that one and probably just my memory. I always used some of the other Original Marabou RR's. I usually used the FL Red/Green/FL Yellow (Chart) or all Chart, all White, FL Red/Chart, Chart/White and a few others. I do like using dubbing too as it offers so many color options.

Looks like it should catch crappie to me!

One thing I can vouch for is they like Turquoise Marabou because I tied some RR's with some Turquoise marabou tail and they liked it a lot! I bet they like this one you tied too!

FM ... I think that's about as close as I've ever seen !! Looks good !!

And just to clarify a couple of things :

"CrappyPappy" is another member, totally different person Rofl

The Peacock RR was from many years ago ... but it wasn't a "original" color scheme.

NOW ... get them things wet and see if your Crappie like'em as much as mine did Thumbs Up

That is a great looking color dubbing. I like it better each time I look at it.

:Hands ClappingUPDATE : Hey, Fatman ... found the Peacock RR !! It was still tied on my RR casting outfit (I could have swore I took it off & changed baits, last time I went fishing Rofl )

    BUT >>>>

Now I'm really going to get and who knows what else !!! You see, once I examined this bait, very closely ... I made a startling discovery : this bait is NOT my Berkley Peacock Roadrunner

This bait appears to be one of the ponyhead custom tied baits that Oregon Slabman made for me, as a subsitute for my long gone Peacock Roadrunner. (& NO, it wasn't sold to me ... it was a gift)

Upon close examination, I discovered that the blade has no markings ... it's a 1/32oz ponyhead (possibly a RR head) ... it has flashabou strands in the tail feathers ... and the chenille body is likely a double wrap of forest green & a bright dark blue.

All the same ... your rendition is as close to what I remember the Peacock RR being, and I commend you on a job well done in putting it together :Hands Clapping

I think you'll like the results you get from with it. I used mine, yesterday ... and though I didn't catch any Crappie on it, I did manage to fool a chunky 15" Bass into biting it Thumbs Up
