Default question for you lead pourers

I poured about 40 collerless jigs today out of a new mold I bought, when I went to powder paint them they seemed to have some oil on them and paint would not stick ..... i melted 4 tryin to maybe cook the oil off of them

so my question is what do I pre-clean my new molds with? I candle soot them before pourin but this time it seemed as if there was alot of oil on the mold

    as always thank you all

Nothing beats soap and water. Be sure its dry because you DO NOT want to mix water w/ hot lead.

Flux and flux again. Clean the molds really good. Don't use a scented candle. Only time I had that problem was using a scented candle to heat my jig heads.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

I've never seen a mold from Do-It that had oil on it!!!!!!!! I've taken them out of the bag, pulled the plastic wrap off the one side and started pouring. I've never used a release agent and NEVER understood why people soot their molds!!!!!

You've seen the trays of jigs I pour and only problem I ever had is with the double sided horsehead mold - 1 - can't use really big hooks and 2 - couldn't understand how I poured fine for 1 1/2hrs. and then the mold didn't want to close tight, with the 1/32nd size below the 1/16th I didn't notice a small piece of lead stuck on the bottom cavity and once I did and got it out I was back to normal.

I just got a new mold and there was oil it. It appeared the pins were over-oiled. About 8 pours with no hooks burned it off nicely.

I'm pretty sure you have a used mold, Do-It doesn't oil anything. And the other is probably oily from another part of the order, Fatman is correct.

It was new in the wrapper. It wasn't a big deal.

Denatured alcohol. Or acetone That will clean it . could've been residue left over from manufacturing process.
