Anyone use kryon paint?

Powder coating or vinyl painting just isn't going to work for me for a while. Maybe someday, but not right now.

I've got a couple of 1 oz. bottles of Krylon paint (red and white). Anyone ever used it for painting jigheads?

Better/worse than nail polish? (my other option)

Hey bdorman,
Enamel paint will bleed very bad if it comes in contact with todays plastic jigs and some skirt material. I have ruined many jigs just using enamel for the eyes. I use powder now and use to use vinyl for the eyes but have switched to Createx Wicked paints after many tests. The Createx is water based acrylic and easy on everthing. I left jigs I painted with Createx Wicked in water for 3 weeks and no fading. If the Krylon is acrylic I would give it a test! Be sure to put some in a small bag with some plastic you use and see what happens.

Powder paint is non toxic and friendly. It's probably used by more than 75 % of all jig tyers. A few use vinyl, but it's a pain with all the drying time and being careful not to get drips and such.

Just my opinion, nothing beats Powder for ease and durability combined. Why fight it? Nothing is perfect.

I have went 99% powder but still use spray paint on a couple of colors that I have found to be great producers. I have not found them to be a problem with the hair and feather jigs. I use powder on the jigs for plastic so can comment on that. Most of the spray paint that I use is for 1/32 and smaller. The smallest I have is 1/100 on a #12. Mostly bream jigs!!

I am going to agree with Skip that powder is the way to go. I goes a long ways, easy to use, very durable. You cant go wrong. I think I was one of the last people to convert to it and I am sold will not go back.

Friend I've painted with alot of different paints and they all but one gave me some kind of problems. I hope you can powder coat soon. It is the by far the least hassle. Good luck.

If your worried about having to use a fluid bed system to powder coat don't, you can just heat the heads and dunk them in the powder. Works great.

Krylon works fine with hair, but not with plastic. And don't get head cement on it either, cause it all turns to goo....
You can buy decent fluid beds, compressors and paint from Janns Netcraft. You really ought to try it. Like everything else. practice makes perfect!

Harbor Freight sell's 4 colors of powder paint cheap ($5/lb). You can use a candle for your heat source. Some guys don't like it, but I use it A LOT! There are some things it will do that no other brands will.

TJ's Tackle carries all the colors of powder paint, fluid beds, air brushes and other tools for powder painting at a much better price than Jann's. There are also videos on the website that show the entire process.
