Default How much powder in a 2" bed?

I finished my first fluid bed and it came out nicely, I think. The powder paint is on order and should arrive this week.

So here's the question: How much powder should I put in a 2" fluid bed?

I hope it's something less than one ounce, since I bought one ounce portions of different colors.

    More newbie questions to come...

    Hey bdorman,
I start out with a half cup then get everything aired up and I add a little at a time with a plastic sppon till it reaches 3/4 full . Makes dipping a little easier if you do not have to go too far down in the cup.Be sure and start with the air valve ALL the way off.

Depends on the depth of your cups a 3" deep bed will take the better part of 2oz to run but if you cut them down to 2 inches then 1oz should do the trick.

Thanks for the advice guys. My cup is 3" deep so I'll dump the whole ounce in there and see how it goes

I'm ready to test a couple of different materials: shopping bag, coffee filter, nylon mesh, etc.

Instead of using a male and female connector, I bought a PVC "union" that works like a compression fitting. The neat thing is that it has a flat surface with an o-ring where the filter goes.

ifish - I'll make sure to turn her all the way up before plugging it in

I would start with the cup about 1/3 full when you turn the air on. Make sure that the cup lid is sitting on the cup also when you turn the air on so powder doesn't fly all over the place. Once the air is flowing and the fluid bed is operating correctly, slowly add more powder paint until you get enough in the cup to cover the jig you are painting. One ounce should be plenty for your cups.
