Ive always thought action comes first, then color, then flash/vibration, then scent... Ive often found whether crankbaits, Hairjigs or plastics once you find something that works well the colors just hone in to perfection, example if im catching trolling a pink crankbait a chartruse crank would work better than a pink jig, but a pink crank might catch better than the chartruse one .... see where im going with this?

Anyways I also believe 80% of jigtying is for us not the fish. The very first and worst jigs I tyed caught fish. But I still try to make jigs to the best of my ability.
