Is there away to prevent bare lead heads from turning dark or is this just going to happen regardless?

If your not going to paint them right away get them in an air tight container. But whatever you use to cover them - use the same type of paint when you go to finish them.
I paint mine with silver metallic finger nail polish
I dip the ones I want to keep gray and shiny in clear coat nail polish.
Don't worry, catch crappie.
Some have gone to getting them electroplated. I have nickle ones and they work great and shine forever.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
I have some that are Nickel Plated, some Silver Powder Paint and some I clear coat with clear nail polish if someone wants unpainted heads.
Skip
I used to clear coat some. Now I've been dipping my weedless ones in 2 part epoxy. Keeps the heads shiny but it also helps keep the weedguard in place.
