    Default options for colored hair?

when I finally start tying, one of the main patterns I want to work on is a Hare's Ear. I would also like to tie some custom patterns based off a Hare's Ear, in a variety of different color.

What would be a good subsititue for Hare Guard hairs, that I could get in different colors?

Are you tying a fly pattern on a jig head or a fly???

With the hare's ear, I like to take a clip of short hair from around the ear, next to the nose and some from below the mouth area and mix it up really good.

Dyed rabbit skins, you'd have the hairs and the underfur. Color possibilities are endless. You could also use fox, badger, squirrel etc. Just make sure you don't have really long hairs, cut them up if need be.

Fly pattern on a jighead. Pbugs2009 is sending me a bunch of 1/16 & 1/32 on size 6, 8, 10 hooks. I am planning on tying some nymph patterns, wolly buggers and experimenting with some large thread/wire midge pattern.

thanks for the suggestion on dying the rabbit skin.

You can buy all the colors of rabbit that you could think of unless you just like to do your own. Squirrel tails should also work with plenty guard hair. Fox it way long, but they die the white ones to make lots of colors too, but not sure the long hair would be what you want. Raccoon tails have so much guard hair, but color limited.
