    Default Clouser Question

This is more of a fishing question than tying. So, do you guys vertical jig with clousers or what? What rig do you use with them? Do you use jig hooks or just straight hooks?

I have not jigged with them before but have used some for trout fishing. I let them sink to the bottom or close and slow reel them back. These were the minnows but you can use a Clouser minnow, nymph, crayfish, leach and also top water in a popper. Each could be fished the way you wanted. Most have to be weighted so you could build off the jighead to get the weight you want to use.

The real Clouser is a fly and fished with a fly rod. You can add weight several ways though and tie it on a jig head, but other ways to add weight if someone wanted to. Just use some tungsten hour glass eyes. I don't use them personally so maybe someone else can add to what is here for you. I like the Crappie Candy better my self and I plan on trying it with a fly rod next spring if this lake gets some water.

I'm in the same school with Skip. I have some tied, with lead eyes, but my time is really weird lately and I can't seem to get to the water when I have the urge. The Crappie Candy is a variant, and I have the stuff to tie those too. You could use a real light action spinner to fish them, but they aren't designed for it. I had a guy tell me, might have been a TV show, that there has been like 84 different species caught on a clouser style streamer. I'm a rookie with a fly rod, but I'm going back to school to learn to fish these two styles of streamers. Keep us posted on what you do with these, I for one will be waiting to hear.

I've been tying them on jig hooks with beadchain eyes with synthetic materials from Fly Tyer's Dungeon.
