Default Just received my Anvil vice

UPS driver was greeted with a smile when he delivered my package today. I ordered an Anvil Atlas vice and got it set up and tied a few on it today. I'm not as happy with it as I thought I would be with the "total vice works". The part where the finger handle is on the sleeve does not tighten up enough and there is some play between the handle and the jaws. As far as the rest of the vice I could not be happier with it. The spindle lock and adjustments work great and the spindle has a great tension adjustment to it. The jaw adjustment works very well and holds the hook tight.
I will post more of what I think about the vice after I spend more time using it. Thumbs Up

The vice does not come with an bobbin cradle neither. The one in the pic is off my other vice. It does come with the c-clamp and pedestal base. Just some + and -

OK, I was not crazy! After tying with the vice for a couple of hours I still was not happy with the movement of the finger handle so I took the vice apart to see what was going on and why the handle wouldn't tighten. After seeing how it work and tied together there was something missing. There is a setscrew on top of the handle collar that tightens the collar to the shaft but the setscrew doesn't reach the shaft. There was a small hole under the setscrew that looked like a pin should be there so when you tightened the setscrew the pin would set into a slot on the shaft. So I go to a hardware store and looked for a pin that would work. Put the vice back together with the pin and Thumbs Up. Works great!!!

Now the vice is working great and is what I expected out of the Anvil vice.

Glad you found the problem. I was thinking I may have been able to get that vise from you for a great price. what was your old vise? Do you want to sell it?

Glad you worked it out. I looked at that vise and liked it a lot, but only handled the display models. I hope you like it cuz it's built well and should last a long time.

Congrats on the Anvil. I have never had the chance to see one in person, but feel sure it's a good vise.

Glad you got the problem fixed and youre happy with your new vise. And I know you like the idea of having another vise already in the camper so you will have one with youre on your trout fishing trips. Now you just need to order everything else needed for fly tying so you dont have to carry stuff from the house to the camper and back into the house for every time you go trout fishing.

    Thanks guys.
I have tied close to 500 jigs and flies on the Anvil now and I am impressed with it. The way it is put together it should last me a life time and maybe a few more life times, if it is took care of right. Once I got it set up to the way I like to work I have enjoyed tying on it. I did have to lower my work station top some to get the vice to the right hight but now I'm wide open again. I would still like to be able to tie some on a Peak vice too, maybe one of these days.

Now if I can talk the wife into buying me a few capes :rolleyes:Thumbs Up.LOL!!!!
