    Default Powder Paint

Just started powder paint a few weeks ago and I've been using a candle to heat jig head. I've been thinking of getting a heat gun as it would not produce soot if you held jig in wrong place.

    so...

    Who uses heat gun?
Who uses a flame? (and what kind)
    Have you tried both?

    Thanks

I started out with a heat gun, moved to a alcohol burner (burns denatured alcohol).

I use a heat gun, I like the clean dry heat better than anything else - been painting ice fishing jigs for several years that way.

Since when I paint I usually paint either half a day or all day and don't want to hear a heat gun all day, plus it's so much easier to control the alcohol lamp. Don't know of anyone that went from a alcohol lamp to a heat gun, but do know lots that went the other way and I have 2 heat guns.

can of sterno from sams club........clean flame. Im sure the alcohol burner is the same concept and allot less noise than the gun.

Will the Sterno or alcohol burner soot the jig like a candle? Not a big fan of the noise of a heat gun...just won't dirty the head. Will probably do a dozen or two at a time...and not very often.

NO the alcohol burns clean and no soot at all. Lots of guys tying jigs and been tying them for a long time use that and you can get one from Barlow's. Plus the denatured alcohol is cheap fuel. Get it at any hardware store.

Oh and some that are out there have a small wick and the one like Barlow's has it perfect size, I think it's a 1/4".

Don't know if WalMart would have one, but a hardware store or craft type store should. Think I'll look for one today. I guess Sterno will work the same if I don't see an alcohol burner.
    Thanks
